Mangkok Ayam

From Tizi, we moved to Setiabudhi Supermarket, which is also known as supermarket bule because they sell mostly imported goods. We're planning to have dinner later at some place around Ciumbuleuit. After wandering for a while, I spotted a unique place next to Periplus books store. It is a small kiosk called Mangkok Ayam (chicken bowl). The interior is warm, dominated with wood, and there are chickens all over the place, from the dinnerware to the wallpaper & even printed on the lighting. I'm in love with this place instantly.

Tizi Restaurant

That afternoon, after visiting Irene's baby, we did some shopping at Cascade FO - Riau, then stopped by PD Pasir Kaliki to buy some ham and sausages. After that, we headed to Tizi for afternoon tea. Tizi was one of our favorite places in Bandung when we're still in university. The place is large, yet so cozy with a view to inner yard.

Last month we had a one day trip to Bandung to visit a friend who recently gave birth to a very cute baby girl. We started late morning from Jakarta & arrived there around lunch time, so we decided to have lunch first at a Balinese restaurant called Lalah. The place was easy to find and we ordered Ayam Betutu Original Lalah (whole chicken) 49K, Sate Lilit Ikan (5 sticks) 12K, tum (pepes) ati ampela 4K, lawar 8K, urap kalas 8K, plecing lombok 8K. Overall the meal was not bad, although not very authentic and my friend complained that their sambel matah was not hot enough. Maybe that's because it was already adjusted to local taste. :)

Last month, we tried a new restaurant called Prefere 72 located at Pacific Place, apparently it was a branch restaurant from Bandung. I have read about this place before, it was a combination beetween restaurant and library. So we ordered one of their recomendation menu : spaghetti kampung and sop buntut. I was quite eager to tried the 'spaghetti kampung', because it said that it was made with Indonesian traditional spices. When It came, the noodles was swimming in a yellowish sauce and topped with shredded cheese. It smell quite weird, but it tasted quite OK, the sauce taste more like the soup buntut, but I'm not sure about combining it with cheese. on the other hand, SC's sop buntut taste was delicious, although the spices was not as strong as Sumatra's sop buntut. I even help him to finish it :P

On a recommendation of a friend, we visited this place for dinner. At first I'm not really sure about this restaurant, because from outside it said : "Gambrinus : German Pub/Restaurant and Indian Curry Kitchen". I don't understand how can they sell German cuisine along with indian cuisine. But since we're already there, we enter the place. The front section of the place is the bar with billiard table, we continue to walk through the door to inside room. the room surely was a dining room but it was empty, then we thought maybe the indian restaurant was on the second floor, so we headed upstair and found a deserted room. Confused we going downstairs again, and then we saw a waiter and asked him, we were escorted to the back side of the house where there were several wooden table. then he gave us a menu full with a long list of German cuisine & Indian cuisine.

We visited this place twice for breakfast. Located in the back side of Padjajaran Stadium (GOR Padjajaran), Ibu Liana currently offer various of pepes, some of my favorite here are : pepes telor asin, pepes bandeng. Usually I got this heavenly meal from Tante Liana niece, Cindy. Whenever she went back to Bandung, we asked her to bring back some of her aunt creation such as : sambel terasi limo, sambel mangga, sambel gandaria, pepes peda, pepes bandeng, pepes telor asin, but I never managed to try her specialty : pepes nasi. So this time I promised my self to visit Tante Liana's stall just for her nasi pepes and it was so delicious. 2 days later we went back there just to buy several item home. Since I already had a big bowl of "bubur tiga rasa" at nearby stall, I didn't plan to had the 'nasi pepes'. But then she asked me to try her 'sambel goreng udang', it taste so hot and yet so delicious. I can't help myself to order a portion of 'nasi pepes' with a plate of 'sambel goreng udang'. The meal was so hot it bring tears in my eyes, no words can explain it. I think you have to try it your self just to know how I feel. :)

I already heard about this place for quite some time now, but never have chance to try it my self. So this time, this place sits on our 'die die must try' list in Bandung. Located in Jl. Sawung Galing, actually its a residential house turned into a restaurant. So we were escorted from one room to another room until we decided to sit near the window. the place was designed in old colonial house, so the ceiling was quite high, & the lighting creates a cozy athosphere. I love this place instantly. :)

From BumiSangkuriang, we moved to Kedai Teko for a cup of tea. I always like this place, it was so homy, surrounded by trees, i could spend hours here doing nothing :) Since we were still full from what we had at lunch time, we only ordered a pot of chi to share. chi actually is what we knew as Masala Chai (Indian spices tea). The pot came with 2 small cup and a bamboo strainer, when I open the pot I saw various of spices like : cardamon, cloves, cinammon, ginger & star anise at the bottom of the pot, the tea already mixed with milk. After a while we pour the tea and putting the strainer on top of the cup to prevent the inggredients fall to the cup. and the tea taste so delicious, I can tell that this is the most delisious chi I ever tasted :) We still want to go back there some other time to try their Poffertjes, tiramisu & home made ravioli.

We had lunch here several weeks ago, at first I want to have "nasi gule" at Unpar's cafeteria, but turned out the stall didn't open that day, so we went up to Bumi Sangkuriang instead. This place is one of my favorite place in Bandung. On my schools day, we used to swim here in the morning on afternoon, and after that we always snacked on : bitter ballen / chicken wings and pinacolada juice. This time we prefer to have our lunch in the indoor restaurant (not at the poolside).

Whenever I went to Bandung, I always went to "The Valley" for dinner. "The Valley" is a good place to dine as it is located on a hilltop that has spectacular view of the whole valley where Bandung is situated. There are some similar restaurant near this place such as "The Peak", "The View", "Sierra", etc.. but in my oppinion "The Valley" served much much more delicious food :)

That night when we arrived, we was lucky to get a table inside the restaurant, usually we eat at the terrace in oeder to enjoy the view. The restaurant inside was warm.. light by candlelight, and soft jazz music was playing at the corner. We ordered the house speciality : "The Zoupa Zoupa Soup" (unforgetable valley cream soup topped with freshly baked pastry crust) 18.5K, "Creme de Poulet" (french style cream of chicken soup served with garlic crackers) 14.5K, "Singaporean Claypot Rice" (authentic chicken rice served extremelly hot woth chicken seafood vegetable & soup) 32K, "Lamb Chop BBQ" (charcoal Grilled rib eye served with potato vegetables & mushroom sauce)... mmmm very delicious.. some of my friends friends show up that night.. there was life music where you can request a song, my friends surprised me by requested a happy birthday song for me :) and I got a small back forrest cake with candle on top .. hehehehe... what a night.. thx alot Manda, Ucie, Tika :)

Image hosted by Photobucket.comOn Saturday morning, I wake up very early because I had travelling plan to Bandung - West Java with some of my colleagues. Bandung also known as the "Paris Van Java" city was a beautiful mountain city at west Java which became a very popular tourist destination every weekend. We arrived there about lunch time so we headed straight to "Nasi Timbel Dago" and had Nasi Timbel Komplit + Ayam Bakar Dada. after that we are ready to explore the city. :)

Dago street or Jl. H. Juanda was one of the Bandung's main street, full with Mall, Factory Outlets, Hotel and places to eat :) I forgot some of the factory outlet we entered here hehehe. after that we headed to Jl. Riau and entered some factory outlet such as "Heritage", "The Summit", "China Emporium" and offcourse "Edward Forrer" (Bandung's famous shoes & bag factory) :)

That night we had dinner at "The Valley" located at jl. Lembah Pakar Timur 28 Dago. This was my fav restaurant with breathtaking night scenery and delicious food. :)
