Nasi Lengko Pak Sadi
Posted by jeny at 12:32 PM
After the not so satisfying meal, we asked the tukang parkir if he knows the location of nasi lengko Pak Sadi. It turned out that what we're looking for was not far from there, in a small alley. We're not leaving until we taste this one, so we went ahead and ordered a portion of nasi lengko and sate kambing to sample. And it was in every aspect more delicious than the one from Pak Barno. :)

Nasi Lengko H Barno
Posted by jeny at 10:07 AM
Before we headed back to Jakarta, we decided on nasi lengko for lunch. The one that was recomended to us is Nasi Lengko Pak Sadi on Jalan Pagongan. We asked around for directions and circled the area several times, but couldn't find it. So we decided to have lunch at Nasi Lengko H Barno instead. We ordered several portions of nasi lengko with sate kambing. To me the taste of this nasi lengko was very plain, the satay was ok although there're more fat than the meat. :(

Bubur Ayam Mang Toha
Posted by jeny at 11:53 AM
Our driver told us that near his lodging, there's a place selling bubur ayamthat is always full day or night. Turned out it was bubur ayam mang Toha, which we had been looking for since the first day we arrived. So we entered and ordered a portion of bubur ayam, bubur ketan & bubur kacang hijau to share. All of the dishes tasted delicious, although it's certainly not hard to find a place like this in Jakarta. But to me, it was a simple & honest food. And the price was super duper cheap. All of the dishes we had only cost us about 10K. :)

Nasi Jamblang Pelabuhan
Posted by jeny at 12:22 PM
From pasar Kanoman, we looked for Nasi Jamblang Pelabuhan which is also famous like Nasi Jamblang Mang Dul. The place was quite crowded when we arrived. There were also lot of dishes to choose from, but the rice was not wrapped in teak leaf. The taste was still good but I think that Mang Dul's tasted better than here, plus the athmosphere was warmer & happier than this place.

Kedai Apun
Posted by jeny at 10:21 PM
On our last day at Cirebon, we headed to Pasar Kanoman for some last minutes shopping. We stopped by Kedai Apun near Sinta store to order ketan bumbu to take home. Kedai Apun also serves: babi panggang Kanoman (Kanoman style roast pork), roast chicken, bakpau, bacang, pork satay, hainamnese chicken rice, chicken congee and several types of traditional cake. So we sat there and sampled their Babi Panggang. It tasted delicious; not too sweet and the skin is crunchy. We later decided to buy some to eat at home.

Sate Kalong
Posted by jeny at 9:20 AM
After dinner we headed to Pasar Kanoman area looking for sate kalong. We searched for this place yesterday, but we entered from the other end of the road and found out that it's a one way road. Luckily, tonight we're on the right track. The road was full of street food vendors and one of them was sate kalong. Sate kalong is made from minced buffalo meat (not bat meat) and it tasted sweet. Next to sate kalong, there'a a cart selling Kue Tapel that tastes and looks like banana pancake. :)

Warung Ayam Goreng & Panggang Bahagia
Posted by jeny at 10:18 AM
That night, we had dinner at Warung Ayam Goreng & Panggang Bahagia, located at -where else?- Jl. Bahagia. The restaurant is famous for its deep fried chicken. They're using free range chicken, the chicken was sticked into a stick like satay & fried. We ordered 4 pcs of fried chicken 10K-12K/pcs, several types of satay (sate usus, ampela, etc) 3K/pcs, chicken head 2.5K, tahu - tempe & dage 9K. Overall, the dishes were quite tasty, the lalapan were fresh & generous, although their chilli sauce tasted a bit sweet. After dinner, we found a small place next to this restaurant that serves several types of dessert such as: es kopyor, es tape, es kacang. We ordered a portion of es kopyor & es tape. Both desserts have shocking pink color as they were drenched with pink Tjampolay syrup. The taste was OK, the es tape was unique as they use tape beras instead of tape ketan.

Tahu Gejrot
Posted by jeny at 10:25 AM
After lunch, we went to buy Cirebon's specialties to bring back home. In Cirebon the most famous food store is Manisan Sinta, which sells everything from manisan buah, manisan sayur, keripik - keropok, Tjampolay syrup, etc. I was not really excited in this store, soon I felt bored and I started browsing outside the store for the kaki lima vendors. There were several interesting selections such as Es Duren (durian ice cream topped with Tjampolay syrup) and Tahu Gejrot (fried tofu topped with shallot & bird eye chilli slices and then poured (digejrot) with a spicy palm sugar juices). So we waited for others to do their shopping, while I sit in front of the store happily digging in on a portion of Tahu Gejrot, while SC bought es duren & Kembang Tahu and share it with me. :)

Empal Gentong Amarta
Posted by jeny at 10:23 AM

After visiting Trusmi Batik village, we stopped by an Empal Gentong seller called Amarta. This one is one of the favorite Empal Gentong sellers, serving Empal Gentong, Empal Asem & Mutton Satay. Empal Gentong is one of Cirebon's culinary mainstay. It is basically beef soup cooked with coconut milk, herbs and vegetable in a big clay pot (gentong). So we ordered empal gentong, empal asem (the clear soup version), and several mutton satays to share. I like empal gentong, but not empal asem as I find the latter tasted only so so, nothing special about it. :)

Nasi Jamblang Mang Dul
Posted by jeny at 9:05 AM
The next morning, after some "light" breakfast at the hotel, we went to Warung Nasi Jamblang Mang Dul. A very popular dish in Cirebon, Nasi Jamblang is rice wrapped in teak leaf and we can choose from a large number of side dishes to accompany the rice. Mang Dul is among the most favorite nasi jamblang sellers in Cirebon (besides nasi jamblang pelabuhan). The place was very crowded when we arrived. People are queuing to get a plate of nasi jamblang, and then they took what they want from the vast selection on the table. After that, they search for an empty spot (really tough to find) and sit down to enjoy their meal. The meal was tasty and the price was reasonable.
