Last week we passed a place called Taj Mahal at Pasar Baru. Actually I heard that there's an Indian restaurant in this area but not sure if this is the one. From the outside, the place doesn't look inviting (I wasn't even sure whether this is a restaurant or a pub). After confirming with a "tukang parkir" nearby, we entered the building. We were greeted by a shabby air conditioned room full with smoke. We hesitated for a moment but decided to take a seat. There were several occupied tables, but it seems like we're the only Indonesians. The waiter gave us a menu that is a mix of Indian, Pakistan & Arabian food. We ordered a portion of paneer pulao, sweet lassi, masala tea, and 2 pieces of samosa. Overall the meal was delicious and quite authentic, but I'm not sure if we will be back to this place again or not :)

On a recommendation of a friend, we visited this place for dinner. At first I'm not really sure about this restaurant, because from outside it said : "Gambrinus : German Pub/Restaurant and Indian Curry Kitchen". I don't understand how can they sell German cuisine along with indian cuisine. But since we're already there, we enter the place. The front section of the place is the bar with billiard table, we continue to walk through the door to inside room. the room surely was a dining room but it was empty, then we thought maybe the indian restaurant was on the second floor, so we headed upstair and found a deserted room. Confused we going downstairs again, and then we saw a waiter and asked him, we were escorted to the back side of the house where there were several wooden table. then he gave us a menu full with a long list of German cuisine & Indian cuisine.

Since we're not very hungry, we're not ordering their house specialty Schweinshaxe (a dish germany is famous for at least 1000gr pork knuckle marinated slow cook and prepared in frankfurt style or grilled with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes with matching mustard). While SC ordered Broccoli & chicken cream soup (puree of broccoli improved with double cream and herbs garnish with chicken) 22.5K, spagetti with fetta cheese on top (with prawn, anchovy, black olive and tomato) 39.5K , I was more into the Indian dishes, so I choose : Egg Biryani (hard boiled egg folded with red Indian curry and basmati rice with traditional indian herbs and spice) 28.5K. For dessert I want an indian dessert : Kaser Kulfi (creamy and smooth textured Indian ice cream made with fresh milk) but they we run out of stock, so we picked apple strudel. In my oppinion the pasta & biryani was ok, although not really special, I was started to think maybe we should order the Schweinshaxe (we saw on the table next to us ordering that, the portion was so big). The apple strudel was a disaster, it taken so long for them to prepared it and when it came it still cold and tasted horrible. I'm definitely sure that this come straight from the frozen food section. :(

reader of this blog suggest me to try "Martabak HAR" located at Hayam Wuruk street. So one night we decided to try it out. We ordered "Martabak HAR Khas Palembang" 9K, "roti cane" 5K and "nasi minyak" 5K and "teh tarik" 4K. They also served "nasi biryani kambing" on weekend. Overall the food was delicious, the martabak is different from "martabak telor" we usually eat it contain eggs only without any minced meat, usually served with curry sauce. and we surely will be back to this place for their martabak, roti cane, roti prata, nasi biryani & kari daal.

This place was sitting on the top place of my must must visit & try, we arrived there on one rainy evening, walking passed Tekka Market to Race Course Road, at last we found the banana leaf signboard. The ambience of this place feels like cafeteria, there's a food counter displaying north and south indian dishes, we ordered biryani rice, masala chicken and a basket of papadam, it were so delicious, the spice taste so strong. The unique thing in this place was the meal actually served on a banana leaf, the meal taste even better if you eat it using your hand. and it cost us about $19 for all those marvelous meal, in my opinion it was quite a reasonable price :)

Last week we had lunch at "Al Nafoura" located at Le Meridien hotel, the restaurant served an authentic Lebanese cuisine. The restaurant was decorated in a warm and cozy middle-east interior, there's a big traditional oven in the semi open kitchen.

When studied the menu we saw that there's a promo: November Business Set Lunch for only 95K++ per person. So that is what we order. The lunch menu included : cold mezzehs - " tabouleh" (flat parsley salad with fresh tomato, cracked wheat, lemon juice and olive oil) and "hommos" (pureed chick peas with sesame paste served with olive oil), while for the main course we can choose from "kofta haiabi" (charcoal grilled minced lamb with sumac powder, pine nuts and cumin served with your choice : oriental rice or lemon roast potatoes and garlic sauce) or oriental "dejaj meshwoui" (charcoal grilled marinated chicken in lemon juice and fresh garlic, coriander and marinated spicy oranges), and for the dessert we got "om - ali" (baked pudding of bread, nuts and raisins with honey). The tabouleh and hommos were served as a dipping with freshly baked pita bread, it was delicious, so was the main course, the dish was served in a generous portion, I noticed that the meal wasn't oily at all, maybe because it was grilled. But the dessert was a little too sweet for me

I always crazed about Indian cuisine, so last Sunday we had a grand buffet lunch (60K++) at Ganesha ek Sanskriti. Its a fine dining north Indian cuisine restaurant located at BRI II center park. On weekdays they opened for buffet lunch (11:30 - 15:00) 45K++, and Dinner 18:300 hrs onward. and they opened all day long on weekends.

so we start with Tomato Cream soup the followed by : Rogan Josh (Mouth watering juicy lamb cooked with a delicate blend of mild spices, onion, yoghurt, fresh coriander and simmered in coconut cream), Biryani Rice (Basmati rice cooked in saffron), Aloo Achari (potatoes with pickles flavored), Bhindi Bhujiya, Veg Jaffrezi (mixed vegetables cooked in home ground spices), Paneer Long Latta (cottage cheese roll stuffed with dry fruits, cooked in cashew nut enriched gravy), Naan (Flat Leavened baked bread made in tandoor or clay oven), Masala Dosa (south Indian pancake), Raita, chutneys & pickles, some sweets & dessert like : Gajar Halwa (Carrot and milk pudding), Rasgulla (Paneer balls dipped in sugar syrup), Jalebee & other meal that I didn't know the name *grin* ...for me all the meal tasted delicious, and I can't figured out that some of the meal I had were made from cheese, because it tasted like tofu. I definitely will be BACK :)
