It has been so long since we last visited Soto Rendi, which, in my opinion, is the best soto madura I've ever tasted in Jakarta. We returned last week to savor the soto once again. From what we heard, Soto Rendi has expanded and opened a second (bigger) branch near Kampus Anggrek Binus. We tried to look for it but couldn't find it. So we decided to visit the old one instead. Located in Kompleks Sandang, the place is very very cramped. We were lucky to find two empty seats inside. We ordered the usual bowl of Soto Ayam Nasi Campur (rice topped with all the soto inggredients & drenched in chicken broth) at 8K per bowl, a very reasonable price, although it has increased since our last visit almost two years ago. The ingredients were not as generous as I remembered, but the taste is still every bit as good as the last time, especially when you add a dash of lemon & some sambal. Soto Rendi was even reviewed by Laksmi Pamuntjak in her newest edition of Jakarta Good Food Guide.

Today we tried this new restaurant called
Warung Tengil at Kelapa Gading that serves Balinese suckling pig. I was so excited the first time I heard about this place because Balinese suckling pig is hard to find in Jakarta. the place was quite easy to find, not far from the big roundabout, and they put up a big smiling pink pig sign that is hard to miss. The interior makes us forgot that we're actually sitting in a shophouse. Decorated in
warong style, with bamboo structures, exposed bricks wall, eccentric chandeliers, lots of paintings & brick flooring. I kind of like this place. :)

From the menu, they are offering
nasi babi guling,
nasi babi bambu bakar,
nasi ayam tengil,
sate babi &
coto babi. So we ordered
nasi babi guling (+soup) 20K,
coto babi 15K, and
sate babi 3K/pcs. The meal came in a rattan basket covered with brown paper. My
nasi babi guling consists of slices of suckling pig with its spice, pork meat, pork lung, keropok rambak, string beans & sambal matah. To be honest, it was nothing like
Babi Guling Bu Oka - Ubud. Everything is a lesser version of the real thing. The soup, the meat, the sambal matah, and the string bean lawar tasted like the cook has underdosed on the necessary spices. Still, it wasn't as bad as it sounds since the overall taste is still okay and the place was jam packed... at 3 PM! SC's coto babi is simply weird. It felt like diced pork meat served in ground nut paste soup. Their best offer is the
sate babi, served with a delicious chilly paste although it was not very spicy. I think I'll be back only for their
sate babi. :)

Last week I tried to visit Lapo on Jobunta (again) but they not open (are they close for good?), so we turn around and visited Sari Melayu instead. They served Medanese Melayu Cuisine, The place was quite deserted since it already passed the lunch time, we picked several type of meal from the counter : chicken curry 10.5K, Gule Otak 9.5K, tumis daun pakis 7.5K, didn't tried their famous gulai kepala ikan (we're afraid we coudn't finish it). In my Opinion the meal have a similarity with Padang Cuisine, this one was more tame. their tumis pakis was delicious, the green chili sambal wasn't hot at all, but still the taste was above average. :)

Last weekend, after attending Computer & Photography exhibition held at JCC, I urged SC to take me to
Lapo on Jobunta for lunch, but when we arrived there the place was closed. So we headed to Pasaraya Grande, Our destination is to try
Wata Kitchen. I remembered I had read about
bubur kambing on Marchel's
site and I'm going to try it. Wata Kichen is Pasaraya's newest foodcourt that served Indonesian selected traditional cuisine, from Sumatra to Papua. There were yougwa (papua) stand, tinoor (manado), sate padang, sate maranggi, soto kwali, selat solo, dudung roxy, balinese etc. so we stopped at a stall called
Pa'De Mak'Nyus (not really like the name) that served
bubur kambing (pekalongan), bubur ayam (tangerang), bubur ikan (pontianak) and nasi bakar peda (betawi). so I ordered
bubur kambing 22K++, the porridge's looks tempting, covered in rich yellow sauce, served with 2 sliced of boiled egg and generous fried shallot (the presentation remind me of smiley :P ). the taste was unique, there was no hint of mutton smell (in fact I was curious where were the meat). but overall the meal was tasty, warm & delicious, although the price was a bit pricey.

2 weeks ago, I went to Bogor with some friends. We arrived there around lunch time and headed straight to a restaurant called CIBIUK. It is a Sundanese restaurant originally from Bandung - West Java. I heard about this place and they claim to be Rajanya sambel, jagonya gurame, topnya ayam & gepuk. The dining area was separate into 2 places, the main dining room with tables, and the saung for lesehan. we choose to eat at the saung. So here's what we ordered : nasi liwet castrol (for 2) 42.5K, nasi bakar pulen special 21.750K, tumis genjer oncom 9.5K, sayur asem 5K, pepes jamur 6.5K, bandrek susu 8K, and warm orange juice 8.5K. The rice packages came with fried chicken, tempe, tahu & lalapan, plus their famous sambel : sambel cibiuk (made from fresh green tomatoes, chillies and lemon lime if I'm not mistaken). Overall the meal was OK, not bad but not to die for. The sambel was not as hot as I expected. but the service was good, plus the place atmosphere, we really enjoyed our time there. :)

Last month, we tried a new restaurant called Prefere 72 located at Pacific Place, apparently it was a branch restaurant from Bandung. I have read about this place before, it was a combination beetween restaurant and library. So we ordered one of their recomendation menu : spaghetti kampung and sop buntut. I was quite eager to tried the 'spaghetti kampung', because it said that it was made with Indonesian traditional spices. When It came, the noodles was swimming in a yellowish sauce and topped with shredded cheese. It smell quite weird, but it tasted quite OK, the sauce taste more like the soup buntut, but I'm not sure about combining it with cheese. on the other hand, SC's sop buntut taste was delicious, although the spices was not as strong as Sumatra's sop buntut. I even help him to finish it :P

Last week we had lunch at Pondok Kakap that specialized in Kepiting Asap. The place is located at Sunter and it was easy to find because there's a huge crab logo facing the street. we ordered 2 kepiting telur asap original (3 ounce each) and 1 kepiting jantan (6 ounce), ikan nila goreng saos mangga, udang telur asin, tumis pakis and tumis kacang panjang keriting. Overall the dishes we ordered were great. I think I prefer their crab better than the one at Rasane and their price was also very reasonable. All of that only cost us about 280K.

This is my favorite nasi tim (steamed rice cooked in a bowl with chicken and mushroom), I have this simple meal at least once a week for breakfast. This place is located near Taman Palem's Traditional Market and only offers nasi uduk (also great) 5K, nasi tim 10K and bakmi. The rice was quite different from what I usually had, it is not mushy as is usual with most other nasi tim. I usually asked for a small plate of sliced bird's eye chilli with soy sauce to go with the meal. It makes for a perfect breakfast. :)

Last weekend, we had dinner with friends at Saung Grenvil located (off course) at Greenville housing complex. This area has a lot of interesting places for foodlovers, especially seafood. (there are 3 big seafood restaurants within 200 metres of each other: Saung Grenvil, Sarang Kepiting, and the newest one, Rasane. We arrived at 6PM sharp when parking spaces and empty tables were still plentiful, and got a table on the second floor. The interior is quite impressive (compared to other seafood places which almost always looked very spartan). We sat down and ordered 2 portions of Kerang Darah Rebus, 2 portions of Keong Macan rebus, 2 Kepiting Telur Jumbo cooked in Saus Padang (200K/kg), and 2 Kepiting Jantan cooked in Saus Tiram (150K/kg), Gurame Goreng, Cumi Goreng, 2 portions of kangkung lombok. Overall, the meal here was very delicious, especially the crabs. Kepiting Jumbo Telur came in 2 large bowls and the portion is truly huge. The quality and freshness of the crabs is very good as the meat didn't stick to the shell. The sauce was also delicious. I'll certainly be back for more crabs.

Last week, we tried Soto Ceker at Sabang street. Sabang is well known for its hawker food vendors, and one of them is Warung Soto Pak Gendut, which was packed with customers during dinner time. Besides soto ceker, they sell various kinds of East Java soto such as : soto ayam, soto ranjau ceker, soto kikil, soto madura and soto babat. but soto ceker looks to be the favourite menu there. Overall, the meal was delicious, the soup was very rich and tasty and the chicken feet were quite plump that we felt very full from just having a bowl of soto ceker with rice. However, considering the richness of the soup, I'm not really sure how much MSG they put in it.

Last weekend, we visited
Adira Kenduri Kuliner Nusantara event held at Gedung Arsip Nasional (Jl. Gajah Mada 111, Jakarta Barat). The entry fee is 20K per pax, and to buy the food we have to use coupons (5K per coupon). There were a lot of interesting food selection offered, such as :
Boepet Mini - Martabak Palembang - Mie Tjelor Pempek - Boergo - Nasij Oedoek Laksa &Tape Oeli Tjisalak - Gaboes Poecoeng Ciboeboer - Soto Mie -Tahoe Pong - Gado-gado dan Roejak Tjingoer -Koepang Lontong & Asem-Asem - Mie Kepiting Pontianak - Atjil - Sate Jamoer - Nasij Bali - Ajam Taliwang Senggigi Coto - Yougwa Masakan Papua - Koewe Tradisional Eis Mangga & Pala - Tjintjaoe Djahe Tjikini - Biir Pletok - Serabi Solo Notosoeman gaja Menteng - Eis Kelapa Muda &Otak-otak . Since I haven't had breakfast yet, I started with
Nasi Jenggo 2 coupons (very pricey judging from the meal's portion & content, and originally in Bali, this food is very cheap), while SC looked for
Semur Jengkol & nasi uduk from Nasi Uduk Betawi Bang Nuri. The meal cost him about 20K (4 coupons), but it tasted delicious. After that, I tried
sate jamur from Banyumas (half portion : 1 coupon),
Sayur Babanci, tape ketan & uli from Mpok Minoel's Stand. Then, I bought a portion of
papeda with ikan gabus kuah asam (3 coupons) from Yougwa stand. I had wanted to try papeda for so long, but never have the courage to actually sample it. I mean, I was a bit hesitant to try the papeda (it looks like sticky glue), but suprisingly it tasted OK, the soup was so fresh and delicious. :)

Several weeks ago, we went to RM Aceh Baru, located across MKG3 (next to Bank Niaga). I've been wanting to try the food here because I heard that the chef/owner previously worked at
Meutia. The last time I visited Meutia (they said that they've just changed management), I was dissapointed by the food quality there. The meals they served at Aceh Baru are more or less the same with Meutia. And like Meutia, they also serve
Ayam Tsunami as their signature dish. Originally, this dish is called
Ayam Tangkap, so I asked the owner why he would change its name. He reasoned that this is the favorite dish among foreigners who flooded Aceh after the Tsunami. We tried their
Ayam Tsunami plus a plate of
Mie Goreng Aceh. Both tasted OK, but not superb. Overall, I still prefer the one at
Seulawah.

This is my all time favorite bakso, recommended to me years ago. But when we tried it last month, it still as good as I remember it. Located at Jl. Makaliwe Raya - Grogol. This small warung called it self Pondok Bakso Super Special and Es Kelapa Muda. Their Es Kelapa Muda was also special, served in quite a big glass. The other special thing about this place is we can add our own celery, fried shallot, vinegar, soy sauce & chilly sauce into the bowl (as much as we want) :)

Last month, SC and I try this 'hip' restaurant called Rasane at Taman Palem (also available at pessanggrahan), we already heard about this place for quite some times, but the high price made us hesitate to try it. Since its just the two of us, we only ordered 3 ounce kepiting asap telur 34.5K, kangkung lombok 19.5K, kerang darah rebus 15K, udang pancet telor asin 35K, steamed rice 4K, and es teh tawar 5K. The crab came in wrapped in banana leaf, it taste OK but not what I had in mind when I was thinking of smoked crab :) We do love their kangkung lombok and Udang pancet telor asin. I think we will be back to this place some other times to try their other specialties.

Last month, we went to Kelapa Gading to try Marannu, the place offer Makassarian cuisine, such as konro and coto. Since the first floor was very crowded, we had to sit on the second floor. We ordered "sop konro" (Makassar beef ribs soup) 25.5K, "konro bakar" (grilled konro) 26.5K, both of the meals were delicious. The meat was tender and tasted even better when eaten with "buras" (ketupat/ rice cake cooked in coconut milk wrapped in banana leaf) 1K each. A few doors down from Marannu, there's also a famous Makassar restaurant called Karebosi. I can't say which one is more delicious because the last time I tried Karebosi was years ago, but we will find out this week. Tune in for the report :)

After the kalap lunch at ITC Mangga Dua, we wandered around the mall, snacking on A&W's potato cheese ball, and then headed to Gloria for a glass of ice coffee. Too bad the place was already closed. We later sat at the so so Shan tung kuo tie, and then headed to panca warna for dinner. Nath recommended us to try Bakmi Kepiting Ameng '99' - its a Chinese food restaurant in Pontianak (Tio Ciu?) style, so we sat down and ordered: bakmi goreng kepiting 17K, bakmi kepiting yam 15K, 2 portions of sekoteng 10K, 1 kwecap 9K to share. As we waited for the orders to arrive (while snacking on some mediocre otak-otak), Nath went to the next door restaurant to order 1 Pontianak style fish congee 12K and buy rusip kepiting & udang for us. When the dish came, we started to dig in. The Bakmi Kepiting turned out to be very delicious after we squeezed in some jeruk cui and added chili sauce into the noodle. It was so delicious that we decided to order another bowl of noodle :P The fried noodle was also great and so was the kwecap, but the most delicious dish we ate that night was the fish congee, it was different from ordinary congee because we can still see the texture of the rice grains, swimming in a pool of garlic flavored soup. It was heavenly. Even though we still wanted to try more of those amazing dishes, we had to stop since our bellies were close to bursting :D We will surely return for more :)

I've heard of this place for a long time, but never have a chance to visit it. So about 2 months ago when
Jalansutra was hosting a culinary tour at Cikini, we decided to join. We stopped by Gado-gado Bon Bin for lunch. The place is located at Jl. Cikini 4. It offers
gado-gado (Indonesian traditional dish which is vegetable salad served with peanut sauce dressing and topped with
emping & prawn crackers) and
asinan as its signature dishes. Besides that, Gado-gado Bon Bin also has
lontong cap gomeh, Lontong Opor, Nasi Rames, nasi goreng, cap cai goreng, soto babat/ayam and mie/bihun ayam/baso/pangsit. In my opinion, the
gado-gado here is delicious, even though the peanut sauce was ground too smooth and I couldn't find any peanut pieces in it. Personally I'd prefer
gado-gado sold at
kaki-lima, but maybe that's just me :)

We went to RM Surya to try their Mie Rebus. The noodle appearance was very attractive, the egg noodle (not instant noodle) drenched with coconut soup, sprinkled with dendeng garing, some green vegetables, and topped with poached egg and pink rice cracker. With that kind of color, I expect the noodle will taste hot and spicy, but the taste turned out to be very smooth, all the spice were blend perfectly in a perfect harmony, for those who who like it hot and spicy, may add more chillies. In my opinion, for 11K a bowl, this kind of noodle was very affordable. :)

Last night, my office held a 'buka puasa' at Omah Sendok. I heard about this place for quite some times now, but haven't managed to visit it. So I asked for their phone number from 108, called them in the morning to reserve, and it turn out we have to pay minimum 50% down payment first by ATM transfer. So we transfered the money, faxed the receipt and then got a confirmation call. The place was located in a housing complex near Senopati. It was quite hard to find if we don't asked them properly how to reach the place. We got a pool side table, and the place was simply charming, with paper latterns hanging on the trees. It create a warm atmosphere. Omah Sendok had a mission to preserve Indonesian culinary. So all the meal were authentic indonesian cuisine that were already hard to find. There were : lumpia, risoles, sosis solo, tahu cocol, bakmoy, sop buntut, soto bogor, soto iga, soto tangkar, rawon, garang asem, lontong sate ponorogo, petis madura, nasi ulam, bestik jawa, rolade daging. bubur sumsum, cingcau, dawet, rujak gobet, beras kencur hangat, bir pletok, kopi tubruk, wedang jahe etc.

For 'Buka Puasa' event at the pool side, Omah Sendok offering a buffet for 65K nett. which consist of nasi putih, nasi goreng, soto tangkar, ayam bakar legit, gurame goreng, bestik jawa, sayur urap, mie bakso, pempek, tahu cocol, soft drink, es dawet, bubur sum sum. Overal the meal was delicious, we all have a good time there. oh, btw there also a space for those who want to pray. :)

Several months ago, on our way home, we stopped by a place located at Jl. Panjang called "Kafe Star" for dinner. The place look quite spartan but clean compared to the cafe2 tempat nongkrong we always found in the mall. They served a various selection of Javanese cuisine such as : rawon dengkul, rawon daging, garang asem ayam, timlo solo, tahu pong, tahu telur, racikan selat, garang asem, lontong opor, nasi opor, nasi langi, nasi bakmoy, nasi bakpuy, nasi lodeh empal, nasi pecel tumpang, pecel tumpang, nasi pecel, pecel telur, gado-gado, tahu acar, sosis kecap, rambak petis, and unique drink list such as : es lengkeng sarang burung, es dawet, es beras kencur, es asem off course they also got a normal drink list like es jeruk & friends. on weekend they also served : nasi liwet, bistik lidah sapi, botok teri, gadon daging sapi.

On the table there was a plate of traditional snacks like : sosis solo, and several kue basah/jajan pasar. we ordered : nasi bakmoy & nasi lodeh empal, 2 types of Lumpia Semarang and I ordered es beras kencur turned out I can't stand the Jamuish taste, so I swapped mine with SC's hot tea . The bakmoy and lodeh tasted good, but I don't really like the Lumpia Semarang's taste. it had a very strong 'bamboo shoot smell'. I had lumpia semarang before, but I don't remember that it has such a trong smell. What do you think?

Last night, we had dinner with friends at Resto Manado Beautika on Abdul Muis Road. One of my friends stop by Beautika at lunch time to make a reservation for 15 people plus ordering some dishes for the night (because we afraid that the food will already be sold out at dinner time), a senior waiter named 'Marla' noted down the order on two sheets of paper. The menu include : 2 bebek bumbu sereh @30K, 2 cakalang saos @25K, 1 paniki 37.5K, 2 tinoransak @25K, 2 cumi woku @25K, 2 sayur bunga pepaya @20K, 1 pepes cakalang, 2 ikan kuah asam @30K and 20 pisang goreng @4K. My friend was then asked by another waiter (male, no name tag) to pay some money for down payment, they said they have to cook the meal we ordered and if we canceled the reservation, the meal they cooked will be ruined. My friend asked them why don't they use the food that is already on display, but they still insisted that she should pay some money. So she gave them 100K and left the place after give them her phone number.

When we arrived at around 7:30PM, I entered the restaurant and said to SC: "the reservation was using Anne name", the nearby waiter heard me, pointed to a group of people and continue to chat with his friends. Some of our friends already there and already had ordered 5 "pisang goreng", we then asked the waiter for some more pisang goreng. they said we didn't reserve the "pisang goreng" and there are only 3 pieces left, so we asked for those anyway. (the "pisang goreng" NEVER came even we already nagging on it several time).
After that we start to eat, since we ordered 2 portion of food from every kind (except the "paniki") and some of our friends haven't arrived yet, we asked the waiter to bring out only 1 portion of each meal first. Later my friend who made the reservation came, and she noticed there's no "pepes cakalang" available, and they brought out two portions of paniki instead of one. She make an inquiry, and the waiter (Marla) insisted stubbornly that my friend never ordered "pepes cakalang" or 20 "pisang goreng", then she show us only 1 piece of the ordering paper and quickly left without any attempt to fix things up.

After finishing our meal, we still feel we want to try "es kacang duren" for dessert, so we ordered 6 portion of it. When it came, we all start digging in and guest what? SC found a small
cockroach in his dessert. We called the waiter and confront them, they said sorry and offered to replace the ruined dessert, but we decline and canceled that one, there are still 5 es kacang duren left, but I noticed that several of my friends didn't seems to enjoy their dessert (one only used it as a last resources if she feel the meal was to spicy).
After that accident we still ordered some food like: mie cakalang (looked & tasted like an instant noodle with cakalang flavor + some veggie & fish chunks) 14K, sop brenebon sapi (it was delicious) 20K, 2 klapertart @30K, and 2 mangga tono 6K. both dish were not bad. The waiter suggest us to take out all our order.
The time was almost 9PM when another friend showed up all hungry, so we ordered another bowl of rice for her to go with all the food that is still on our table. At 9PM a waiter asked us to pay first, since they already close, and they still permit us to linger for a while. We also asked them to packed the food that was left. At 9:20 we noticed that all the waiter had dissapear and only the "Satpam" was there. When we left the place I noticed that our table is still full of plates, and I wonder, are they going to clean that the next morning? I always like to had lunch/dinner at Beautika, but after an experience like this, I will never eat at their Abdul Muis branch anymore.

We visited this place twice for breakfast. Located in the back side of Padjajaran Stadium (GOR Padjajaran), Ibu Liana currently offer various of pepes, some of my favorite here are : pepes telor asin, pepes bandeng. Usually I got this heavenly meal from Tante Liana niece, Cindy. Whenever she went back to Bandung, we asked her to bring back some of her aunt creation such as : sambel terasi limo, sambel mangga, sambel gandaria, pepes peda, pepes bandeng, pepes telor asin, but I never managed to try her specialty : pepes nasi. So this time I promised my self to visit Tante Liana's stall just for her nasi pepes and it was so delicious. 2 days later we went back there just to buy several item home. Since I already had a big bowl of "bubur tiga rasa" at nearby stall, I didn't plan to had the 'nasi pepes'. But then she asked me to try her 'sambel goreng udang', it taste so hot and yet so delicious. I can't help myself to order a portion of 'nasi pepes' with a plate of 'sambel goreng udang'. The meal was so hot it bring tears in my eyes, no words can explain it. I think you have to try it your self just to know how I feel. :)

Two weeks ago We were looking for something to eat at Bandung Trade Center (BTC) food court, after browsing for around the place, we decided to bought dinner at Pak Chi met's stall. Its a Sundanese seafood restaurant specialized in "ikan bakar". Apparently this place was quite popular, they have several branches in Bandung. from the menu, we choose "Paket Ulam Ikan" which consist of grilled fish, stuffed squid & prawn satay, 'lalapan', 3 types of chili sauces served with steamed rice a 'cobek' + fresh tea. the seafood was quite fresh and most of all I love their chilli sauce, its so hot I can eat the whole rice using only sambal :P

2 weeks ago, we had lunch with several friends at Warong Selera Acil Inun's, a branch from the famous Acil Inun's at Samarinda - East Borneo. Offering East Borneo authentic cuisine. I never had this kind of cuisine before so I was very excited. We ordered several fish dishes : patin bakar sedang 35K, gence haruan bakar sedang 37.5K, pindang kepala jukut (pindang kepala ikan) 20K, & their specialty : daging rusa masak bumi hangus 25K, for vegetables we picked : rojak singkil (sayur santan pucuk singkil : only available on weekend) 15K, tumis genjer 15K, tumis paku-paku (tumis daun pakis) 15K, 2 portion of petai tunu/sanga 8K, 2 portion of nasi bekepor besar 25K, empal jagung acil inun 15K and pirik cabe raja rupa-rupa (a combination of several type of sambal : cabe betunu/bakar, cabe empelan/kuini, cabe tomat, cabe limau & cabe mentah) 25K. Overall the meal was good, although the portion was quite small (for 'kalap' people) and not as spicy as I want it to be. But the sambal raja was quite special, one of the sambal have thinly slices "Kalimantan's jeruk limo skin" on it. still will be back for udang petai bawang rambut :

Several weeks ago, We passed through this newly opened restaurant located across the famous Sandwich Bakar on Pesanggrahan street. This place apparently is a branch from the famous Bebek H.T Karang IV, actually I already heard that they opened their Jakarta branch on Karang Tengah street - Lebak Bulus, but never had time to try it. So we ordered 2 bebek goreng super (about 15K if I'm not mistaken) with Cah Kangkung 5K and steamed rice 3K & nasi uduk 5K (AYCE). From the drink list they have fruit juice selection only jeruk/alpukat/semangka/melon/jambu/sirsak/tomat/wortel at 3K while their ice tea range from 0.5K - 2K (refill). we have to waited for about 15-30 minutes and asked for our food for several times (maybe because this place is still new), and our meal turn out in about 1/2 dozen of pieces, it seems like they run out of bebek super (bigger size duck) and replaced it with almost the whole portion of the duck. In my opinion the begor taste simply delicious, a bit oily but I don't care, the duck was so fat, the meat was so juicy plus their oily chili sauce it was simply perfect. oh btw while we are paying we're given a free parking card. :)

Craved for "Mie lebar ala Bangka", Last Friday I decided to walk to my favorite "Bakmi Bangka" located at the back of Wisma GKBI. Usually this place was so crowded at lunch time we have to wait to get a seat, but today we can managed to find a seat quite easily. so I ordered : "Mie Lebar Pangsit" 7K and a bottle of fresh tea. Besides Mie Lebar, they also served : mie/kwetiaw/bihun ayam with pangsit or baso or both (price range from 7K- 9K), tahu kok, pangsit kuah, baso kuah @7K. The noodle came with a separate bowl of soup filled with chicken wonton. The noodle was topped with green vegetable, bean sprout plus a generous portion of minced chicken meat. And I was glad to find that it was still as delicious as I remember :)

This is my favorite place for "sop kambing" (SC took me here on our 1st D), located on Hayam Wuruk street (near Mercure Hotel). they served only two type of meal : oxtail soup & mutton soup. 1 portion of the mutton soup cost us about 28K + steamed rice 4K, but I think it worth every penny. It is a Chinese style of Mutton clear soup with vegetables without any traces of "prengus" smell. According to me it is simply warm & delicious 'honest food' (SC prefer the one at nasgor kebon sirih).

We had "Bakmi Bintang Gading" for dinner last week, its a famous meat noodle from Makasar (the capital of south Sulawesi/Celebes), the specialty here is Mie/Bihun Pangsit (not Halal), sop konro, sup buntut but besides that they also had several choices of Chinese food like : mie/bihun canton, hokkian, nasi hainam, nasi capcay, nyuk nyan. Several choices of nasi goreng : nasi goreng Ujung Pandang, Jakarta & Kepiting. Some beverages choices like : es palubutung, es kacang merah, es kelapa pandan etc. In my opinion the noodle was only so so, not that special. I think I still prefer 'Mie Lebar Bangka' than this one :)

This place is SC's favorite place for "Sop Kambing" since high school (bener ngga?). The place was quite deserted on weekend (but I guess it was crowded on weekdays). What they offer is quite the same with "Dudung", we have to choose which part of the meat we want (4.5K each), "kaki kambing" 7K, and they will mixed it with with the soup, very tasty and I guess I still prefer this place over "
dudung roxy" :)

This place located next to the famous
"Bubur Ayam Bang Tatang" and also always full of guest at dinner time, so one day we decided to try it. This place served quite authentic Betawi cuisine, like the one Bang Udin offer : nasi uduk in Betawi style, complete with
Semur Jengkol, empal gepuk, semur telur, etc. and topped with melinjo crackers. In my oppinion, the meal was simply delicious, even the" semur jengkol" was not bad, we even asked for another plate of nasi uduk :)

Last week we tried the famous "nasi goreng kebon sirih" located at kebon sirih road, besides nasi goreng kambing, they also served : sop kambing, sate ayam/kambing etc. Their speciality is in their fried rice : cooked in a very large pan using samin oil and if i'm not mistaken : some indian curry & spices. the mutton was cooked separately then added to the pan. served with fried shallot and melinjo crackers, you can also asked for a plate of acar if you want. The dish cost us about 16K for 1 plate of nasi goreng kambing & 10K for sop kambing. While I think this nasi goreng is delicious but a bit pricey & overated :P SC love their "Sop Kambing" which taste & smell so "kambing" to him :)

Last week SC was craving for "bubur ayam ala abang-abang", so I took him to one of my favorite "bubur ayam kaki lima" called "bubur ayam bang tatang". This is a very famous Indonesian style chicken porridge, opened every afternoon, the place it self was not very representative but it always full of customer gathered around Bang Tatang waiting for him to serve the meal (he can make more than 10 bowl of porridge in one batch). The specialty of this porridge is in its topping, it was full of a very generous chicken slices, I think the chicken is much more that the porridge :)

Last Sunday, one day before "nyepi" (Hindu new year), SC & I were hunting for Balinese food around West Jakarta. We once heard that there's a Pura located at Jelambar, In my mind whenever there's a Pura, there must be a Balinese food served :P We found this very humble "warung" next to the "pura" called "Putu Puja" owned by Mrs. Gusti Putu Puja that open only every sunday morning from 9AM. The only menu available there is "nasi campus khas Bali" 15K. In my opinion this is the most delicious Balinese "Nasi Campur" I had ever tasted in Jakarta. :)

Last week I heard my friend said that "Bu Rudy" open her restaurant at Kelapa Gading at 10th March. Being a big fan of her famous "Sambal Bawang", I decided to hunt it down on weekend :P So I dragged SC to drove along 'boulevard raya' & finally we found the place, we entered and ordered "nasi udang empal khas Bu Rudy" 12.5K, "Rawon" 12.5K. The meal was served pretty fast, steamed rice topped with fried prawn, "empal" and "kremesan". before we eat, we have to put the "sambal bawang" on top of the dish. In my opinion it was the "sambal" that makes it so deliciously hot, according to SC the rawon was a bit "alot" :P We bought back 2 bottles of "Sambal Bawang" 8k each, and "nasi bali daging" 12.5K. I really didn't like the nasi bali, it was to sweet & really not what i had in mind when I ordered it :(

Last week I craved for "Sop Ikan Asam" (Manado style fish sour soup) located at Benhill Foodcourt, but when we arrived there, the place was already deserted :( so SC took me to "Sate Djono Pejompongan". This place was popular for their satay, they have several choices for satay : sate ayam, sate goreng, sate kambing. For soup they offered : sop kambing, sop kaki, sop kepala, sop otak. they also had : gule kambing, tong seng, nasgorkam & nasgor ayam, gado2 & friends. Since we're preparing for big dinner that night, we only ordered : 1/2 portion (5 tusuk) of "sate kambing" 15K, 1 portion of "sop otak" 23K and as appetizer we ordered "tahu Sumedang" (10 pcs) 6K. In my opinion the "tahu sumedang" was so so, the satay was OK lah.. not bad, but I really love their "sop otak" very much (don't really care about the cholesterol yang penting enak).. I'll be back for the soup :)

We've been planning to try this place for so long, but considering the traffic situation around tomang/roxy we decided to try it at one of their branch located at Tanjung Duren Barat street. Dudung Roxy opened its door to their costumer around 6PM till 23PM, they were famous for their "Sop Kaki Kambing". when we arrived they gave us a plate to pick the goat's parts such as "daging, lidah, kuping, mata, daging pipi, tulang muda, jeroan" (4K each), "kaki/otak" @8K and they even have "torpedo" 9K. :) after that they pour the soup (coconut milk) & others ingredients such as celery, potato, "emping" etc. and served rice. Overall the taste was not bad, quite savory but still acceptable lah, but we think we will compare this place's sop kambing with one of SC's favorite at Sop Kambing El Toro located at Gang Macan.

Last month we went with
JalanSutra in "Tour Keju Gouda van Soekaboemi" located at Bukit Baros - Sukabumi. after that we were given some time to explore the town. While the others are going to the market, we were heading to RA Hakim street to try the famous "mie cinco". The banner outside the place was quite misleading: "Mie Ayam Cinco", when we order 4 bowl of "mie lebar", we were asked for what we would like for the topping : chicken or roast pork (we choose roast pork). The noodle came in quite a big portion and very generous roast pork on top of it. Try mix it with the hot chili sauce, it tasted so delicious. we bought 2 more portion back to the bus, but the noodle became quite sticky when its cold, but still taste delicious :)

Visited this place several weeks ago with SC. According to what I heard, this place served quite authentic central/east Java cuisine. The place was not as fancy as similar Indonesian restaurant usually found at the mall, but the place was so full at lunch time, we arrived a bit early so we still can get a seat :)

From the menu we saw that they offer various kind of meal such as nasi rawon, nasi rames, nasi kare ayam, nasi bakmoy, soto madura, rujak cingur, lontong cap go meh, gado-gado, tahu gunting, tahu telor, tahu campur. On every weekend and holiday they also served swikee kuah, sop buntut, nasi pecel, soto ayam, kupang lontong & various "kue basah" (lumpia, pastel, lemper, onde-onde, pastel tutup, ketan srikaya, kolak, lumpur, bikang, etc). After studied the menu we ordered "nasi bakmoy" 13K, "kupang lontong" 10K with a glass of "es cendol" 5K/ while waiting we saw most people ordering "lumpia semarang" as appetizer, so I walked to the back of the restaurant where they display various Indonesian traditional cakes "jajan pasar" and ordered 1 "lumpia basah" 4K and "risoles" 3.5K. Overall the meal here was not bat at all, we even make a promise that we'll be back another time. hopefully this place will survive the flood.

2 weeks ago we had our christmas lunch at "Kembang Goela" restaurant, in my opinion this place was one of the most well designed restaurant i've ever been to :) the dining room was designed in colonial style, it feels warm & cozy, the meal was simply delicious although a bit pricey. serves Indonesian - Dutch "peranakan" cuisine.

So we started with ordering appetizer : "sosis om yance" (1 meter of boiled chicken sausage) 20K, "Loempia Semarang" (spring roll with shrimp, bamboo shoots & green onion served with special sauce & pickles) 20K, "Loempia Sayoer" (fried spring roll served with vegetables and tofu) 25K, bitterballen (deep fried cheese and potato balls served with home-made mustard) 35K.
The drinks list was quite unique, such as : "Es Pariyangan" (made from stroep blewah, kelapa & cincau) 25K, "Es Asmara" (made from mango & Pamelo) 25K, "Djoewita Malam", "Selendang Sutra", "Djoes Kemuning", "Es Jangan ditanya" (blended pineapple, mango, yoghurt, lime and honey) 25K, "Es Peyeumpuan", "Es Bendera" (blended sirsak, lime pineapple & pink guava) 25K, "Es Londo Kangen" etc... etc.
For main course we ordered : "Nasi Pandan Wangi" (rice steamed with coconut milk served with fried chicken, peanut, chili sauce, sliced omelet, sauteed red chili, fried shallots, teri kacang & melinjo crackers), "Nasi Langi Lima Serangkai" ( fragrant steamed rice served with fried shrimp and Savory empal meat), Nasi Goreng Si Pitoeng", "Nasi Jembatan Merah", "Sop Asem Asem Iga", "Rendang Uni Ida", "Sate Ayam", "Sop Buntut". At last for dessert we ordered : "Poffertjes van Oranje" (Dutch-style waffles served with strawberry and chocolate sauce and sprinkled with powder sugar) 25K, "Tape Goreng", and "Pisang Bakar Kembang Goela"

Before we try "tomyam" at Taman Palem, this was our first stop, Bebek Goreng Yogi (knew about this place from Elisa, thx lis :) ). actually this is our second time here, the first time was at last ramadhan season and at that time they open at 5PM, this time we arrived early at 11:30PM. This "bebek goreng" restaurant seems to adopt a self service style, the meal was already available and we can choose it ourself. when we arrived there's not many thing available, including "nasi uduk", so we take a tray and start digging for steamed rice and "lalapan". I picked their bebek panggang while SC choose bebek goreng from the selection. after paying we headed to an empty seat and start eating. There were 2 types of sambal here : sambal mangga (very sour) and sambal merah (very hot). overall the meal was not bad, but because it already prepared earlier.. it felt kind of cold. besides bebek panggang, and bebek goreng, they also had bebek sambal ijo, bebek sambal merah, tahu & tempe goreng + sate ampela.

After Miitem, we went to Papaya Fresh Gallery ( a Japanese minimarket that sells mostly Japanese food) in Melawai to do some shopping where I found the most delicious japanese cheese cake :) after that we headed west for dinner at Swike Purwodadi, located in Greenville housing complex. the restaurant was humble and small but clean. we ordered : 1 portion of swike (frog legs cooked in thick fermented soy soup) 14K and 1 "kodok goreng mentega" (deep fried frog legs served with sweet soy sauce) 18K and 2 big glass of fresh orange juice @ 10K. To tell the truth maybe we put so much expectation on the swike so it tasted so so to us, not bad though, the other meal was good & the orange juice was so refreshing. we noticed that most of the visitors there were from Central Java who missed the food of their hometown. :)

I already looking so long for a place selling a decent nasi bakmoy, my memory of a delicious nasi bakmoy was the one I had years ago at "kantin fisip unpar" :P Besides nasi bogana & nasi bakmoy, they also served nasi kuning, nasi langi, nasi lengko, nasi rames, nasi dendeng, rawon, asem-asem daging, gado-gado lontong/sayur, ayam goreng, lontong capgomeh & udang pecak. :)

While still at 'cafe pisa', I mentioned that I want to visit Kramat Raya to try the famous 'nasi kapau', I said "Don't you galls want to buy something for sahur tomorrow?", they seem interested with the idea of having 'Lemang' for sahur. so we headed to Senen, it was located at the hook of Kramat Raya Street, there were several food stalls opened in the evening until dawn (I guess) serving Nasi Kapau (almost similar to nasi padang, but it came from a small village called Kapau in west sumatra with have slightly different styles of cooking, their specialty here were bebek cabe ijo & rendang bebek hitam ). when we arrived the place was very crowded with diners, we choose the most crowded one (Nasi Kapau Uni Upik), when my friends buying Lemang & other meal for sahur preparation, I start drooling again when I saw the selection of food there and can't help my self to order one portion of Nasi Kapau with "bebek sambal lado ijo" 18K, it was delicious especially when you eat eat using your hand :)

On our way back from Uluwatu, we stopped by Menega Cafe at Jimbaran beach for dinner. This place was the target for Bali bombing II. I love this place so much. We had delicious dinner under the skies and we can also feel the warm sand on our feet. We ordered : 0.8kg grouper fish 40K and 0.65kg Crab 39K grilled in jimbaran style and orange juices 8K. The meal came with a plate of delicious plecing kangkung. The seafood was so delicious with 3 types of chili sauce for dipping.

One of my "die die must try" list in Bali was to taste "Babi Guling Bu Oka" (Balinese suckling pig). So one day we drove to Ubud early in the morning. arriving at Ubud around 10AM, the place haven't opened yet, so we took a walk to Ubud Art Market and Ubud Palace. 15 minutes to 11 we're back at the restaurant and take a seat inside. we ordered 2 portion of "nasi + babi guling (special)" 15K, the meal were so tasty and hot. it was consist of : steamed rice topped with lawar, urutan, meat, pork skin, rambak and off course spicy sambal. the skin was so tender and delicious. we even took 2 portion of "daging babi guling" 15K home.

One of our missions in Bali is to try out authentic Balinese cuisine, so the next day we jumped on a bemo and headed to Denpasar. We wanted to try 2 restaurants serving halal version of 'Nasi Campur Bali': "Warung Satria" and "Warung Wardani". Our first stop was Warung Satria. The place was still empty since we arrived early. So we ordered 'Nasi Campur Special' (steamed rice served with shredded chicken in spicy sambal, lawar, balinese spicy egg, plecing kacang panjang, sate lilit ikan, fried prawn, complete with sambal matah) 16K. The meal came in quite a generous portion + a bowl of 'ares' (edible banana stem) soup. It was delicious and the 'sate lilit' (Balinese grilled fish satay) is the best compared to sate lilit from all other places we've tried in Bali.

After that we walked pass 'satria art market' to Jl. Yudistira where there's another place called "Warung Wardani" that also serves 'Halal' Nasi Campur Bali. Again, we ordered 'Nasi Campur' 16K. We were quite disappointed when our order came. The side dishes looked relatively sparse compared to what we had at Warung Satria and the taste is nothing to write home about. Its sate lilit tasted more like pempek than true sate lilit. I guess our review wouldn't be as harsh if we tried this one first instead of Warung Satria, but overall it was still worth to try. :)

Several weeks ago, I have lunch at a place called "Kedai Pawon Sae" located at Apartemen Gading Residence – Kelapa Gading. This place was a small restaurant serving a wide array of Javanese food. When I read the menu, I found that they also served "Nasi Bali" marked with * as a sign of their favorite item. So we ordered : Nasi Bali (nasi gurih, ayam suir bumbu Bali, tumis kari kacang panjang, dendeng sapi balado, kering tempe, kacang & telur pindang)16K, Nasi Udang Selera (nasi gurih, daging empal asam manis, udang goreng selera, serundeng, sambal bawang)17K, Nasi Liwet (nasi gurih, opor ayam, tempe & tahu bacem, sayur labu siyem, areh telur, tim telur, krecek & kacang merah, telur pindang)15K, Nasi Bogana (nasi gurih, sambal goreng, tempe kacang panjang, ayam kari suir, dendeng Age, sambal goreng rempela ati, telur pindang) 15K. At first I want to order Nasi Bali complete with Sate Lilit & Sambal Matah (20K) but then the waiter said that they didn't have Sate Lilit at that time, and he didn't even know what is Sambal Matah :( when our order came, I noticed that all our order looks almost the same. They must have mixed & matched the ingredients. The "Nasi Bali" was not the same as I expect it should be. The taste was alright, although a little too sweet for my taste, but if you like Javanese food, you should gave it a try.

All this time, whenever I want to eat Bataknese food, I always went to
"Lapo Ni Tondongta" (usually at Senayan), I never know that behind that "lapo" there's "Lapo Siagian". got the information from a porklover friends :) Last Friday, with a couple of friends, I went there for lunch. the place was very crowded at lunch time, there's a live music playing Bataknese song loudly. We have to take a seat outside the restaurant. after seated, the servant gave us 3 portion of rice, "panggang B2 lomok-lomok" 8K, "sangsang lomok lomok" 8K, and "sayur daun singkong" 2K. I have to admit that this place serve more delicious food than the one i mentioned above. :)

2 weeks ago, SC & I stopped at RM Puas located near jl. Panjang, the restaurant specialty are martabak, roti jala & kare, they also served "nasi kebuli" (lamb / chicken). After studied the menu (the food here mainly have Arabic & Betawi influence), we ordered : "nasi kebuli kambing" (arabic style rice cooked with a lot of spices, usually derved with dried lamb meat) : about 17K, "roti jala with kare kambing" 10K, "roti canai" ( Indian's bread cooked on a flat iron skillet with a lot of oil) 3K , sambosa (the taste and appearance looks a lot like samosa) 2K, all of that + drinks cost us about 32K if I'm not mistaken, very reasonable price right? and what I love is the kare kambing & kebuli turn out so delicious :)

We went here for late dinner last week, located at jl. Gunung Sahari opposite to "mangga 2 square building", very crowded at night. From the restaurant name, you can already guess what is the specialty here : "Kepiting" (crab), so we ordered : "kepiting saos padang", "kepiting lada hitam", "kepiting soka balut telor asin", "kerang rebus" & 1 portion of "kangkung". for rice you can choose between "nasi putih" or "nasi uduk". In my opinion overall the taste of the food was not bad (this is my first visit), but according to my friend who always came here whenever they craved for crab, the taste was not as good as before.

We have dinner at this place several weeks ago, from the restaurant name, we can already guess what is their specialty : "ayam tulang lunak" (the chicken was cooked in high pressure cooker until the bones were soft and eatable). so here is what we ordered : "ayam presto telur asin" (13.5K/pcs), "bebek presto goreng crispy" (12K/pcs), & "plecing kangkung" (8.5K). overall the food was not bad, the chicken bones were soft & delicious. but the duck bones was not eatable (although they said its a bebek presto). :P

Last week we got an invitation for birthday dinner held at "Ajengan restaurant". located near melawai / blok M. From the moment we entered this place, I just love it. I like the inner garden in Balinese style, the entrance, foyer & the ambience of this place, so homy & cozy. They served an authentic Balinese Cuisine, and I bet the food will be as good as the place. :)

So here's what we had that night : for appetizer we started with : some kind of Balinese nuts, a bowl of "rujak kuah pindang" (mango and kedondong fruit salad with pungent dressing mixed with fish broth) 10K, "Rujak Bancih" (Unripe papaya and bangkuang fruit salad with Bali fermented palm wine vinegar) 10K and "Tahu Gianjar" (tofu/soybean curd prepared with chili) 12.5K. For the main course : "Brengkes Udang" (shrimps prepared with Bali condiment wrapped with banana leaves), "Tum Be Siap" (chopped chicken meat prepared with Bali condiment wrapped with banana leaves) 15K, "Tuluh Tim Bebek" (stewed duck egg in a Bali condiment) 12.5K, "Bebek Garing Ajengan" (duck fried weldone served with white rice and chili, jukut kalaas together) 35K, "Be Pasih Jimbaran" (roasted fish served with Jimbaran various spicy side dishes) 50K, "Sate Lilit Ayam" (roasted on skewer small pieces of chicken meat) 20K , "Jukut Cantok" (vegetable containing legumes bean sprouts with bean condiment) 10K, "Jukut Ares / Nangka" (Edible banana stem / young jackfruit sauce with chicken broth and Bali special condiment) 12.5K, "Garang Asem" (squash vegetable with chicken sauce and Bali special condiment) 12.5K, "Jukut Lawar Nangka/Kacang Panjang" (chopped young jackfruit / legumes vegetable with rasped coconut and special Bali Condiment) 12.5K , "Be Siap Sisit" (ripped fried chicken mixed with shrimp condiment) 25K. all of this served with steamed rice and several type of sambal : sambal matah (crushed raw onion and chili). For Dessert we had : "Es campur Bali ala Ajengan" (Balinese ice coctail ala Ajengan) 17.5, "Fruit Honey Yoghurt ala Ubud" (Ubud various of fruits with honey and yoghurt) 15K & "Sanganan/Jajanan Bali" (various Bali sanganan /jajanan) 15K. overall I was very very impressed with the food. all of it were very delicious. in other words "enak, enak, enakkk" :)

We went to "RM. Galung" for lunch last weekend. This restaurant served an authentic food of Pematang Siantar : Nasi Galung (which is kind of "nasi rames/nasi padang" from North Sumatra ). I guess the meal had Malay influence but tasted hotter and spicier. Some of their speciality is "Ikan Pari Goreng", "Ikan Mayong", "Gulai Kepala Ikan". "Sop Sapi" . I tried their "miso ayam" (Medanese chicken noodle soup) too, and it was really delicious especially if you eat it with a glass of cold "liang teh" or "jus terong belanda" or "markisa". I used to have this kind of "nasi" back in my home town but never know that it was called "Nasi Galung" untill now. :)

After we read from Ice's comment
here that there's one "Bakmi Kumango" opened in Jakarta, me and SC start on a search to greenville, the first time we went on the afternoon and couldn't found it, later we found out that the place was close at night. So we came again on weekend for lunch and this time we found it. So we ordered 2 portion of "Bakmi Kumago". it was OK, but I think it tasted not quite the same with the one I had in Medan.

Last week we found this small & delicious 'kaki lima' cafe near "RM. Nasi Gandul" Pesanggrahan that served : "Ayam Bakar Taliwang" (Lombok/Sumbawa authentic cuisine) . So we (I) had dinner there and ordered : "ayam bakar taliwang" (grilled wild young chicken with Lombok's style chilli sauce) with a portion of "pelecing kangkung" (Cooked fresh water spinach (kangkung), mixed with a sauce made with chilli, fish paste/terasi, tomato salt and lime). both are very hot and spicy. So if you can't stand spicy food better not risk yourself to try it :) Besides "pelecing kangkung" and "ayam taliwang" they also served "beberok terong" (cooked eggplant with fresh chopped onion and chili sauce).

We had breakfast here last weekend, it was a Padang Restaurant located at the "Bendungan Hillir" traditional market. I think they served quite authentic Padang cuisine such as : "bubur kampiun", "pecel padang", "ketupat sayur", "soto padang". I reconized that the "rendang" served here contained some "kacang merah" which I never found in all the Padang restaurent I had ever been to. :)

Last week I had lunch at Meutia Restaurant in the Bendungan Hilir area. I actually prefer Seulawah than Meutia for Acehnese food, but since Seulawah have moved to Tanah Abang, we went here instead. This restaurant is very crowded at lunch time. They serve all the food in small plates just like in Padang restaurants and you only pay for what you ate.

One of Meutia's signature dish that they are proud of is Ayam Tsunami. They claimed that it is their original creation, but Ayam Tsunami is really just a "rebranded" Ayam Tangkap (crispy fried spicy chicken with temuruy/curry leaves 25K), an Acehnese traditional dish . I don't understand why they had to rename an Aceh original dish after a tragedy *sigh* and there's also one dish they called Sambal Ganja" but it is actually Asam Udang :(
Other than that bit of complaint, the food is quite good, although not as authentic as Seulawah's. Other menu you should try at Meutia is Kari Bebek and a unique drink, Jus Timun Kerok. They also sell Acehnese traditional cakes such as Kue Timphan, Kue Jala, Kue Pulut Bakar & Kue Bingka.

I had "Nasi Campur Bali"/ Balinese mixed rice (steamed rice served with mixture of lawar nangka, tum babi, pork satay, etc) 10K at Pure Cinere courtyard last weekend, I also bought "nasi Jenggo" ( steamed rice served with noodles, fried nuts, shredded shicken and sambal, wrapped in banana leaf). In my oppinion the food was quite authentic, to bad they don't serve "Babi Guling" (a spit-roasted whole pig stuffed with a delicious mix of herbs and spices) when we came. :P

Last week, after visiting some friends at the hospital, we decided to have dinner at Pesanggrahan. Since its already late, I only want something light for dinner, so we didn't looking for some fancy looking restaurant and just look for street food instead. We stopped by a small warung called "Rumah Makan Nasi Gandul, masakan khas Pati Jateng". my first experience with "Nasi Gandul" was at "spice garden" Sogo foodcourt which was quite expensive & tasted so so. So we ordered 1 portion of "Nasi Gandul Campur" & 1 portion of "Nasi Ayam khas Semarang". On the table there's a display of various "jerohan", perkedel, bakwan jagung, tahu, tempe, tempe bacem etc to choose to accompanied our meal. Overall our ordered tonight taste much much more delicious than the one we had at Spice Garden & very reasonable price too. We will be back there soon to try another menu like : "Nasi Pindang", "Tahu Telor", "Soto Ayam Kemiri", Mangut etc.. (nyam nyam bgt deh pokoknya) :)

One of my favorite restaurant in Jakarta, served very hot and spicy Manado cuisine. Last week, I had a chance to have lunch there, when we arrived there, the place already packed with alot of people. We ordered cumi woku, ayam dibulu, ayam rica-rica, ikan bakar with sambal dabu dabu, tumis bunga pepaya, a bowl of sop kakap asam and ended it with a delicious "klapertart" (coconut tart desert)

Last weekend, before going to
"ya-udah" bistro, SC & I were heading to Pluit to try "Bihun Kari Ayam" Tabona. I had tasted its
original "bihun kari ayam" in Medan a couple of months ago. When we heard that there's is a restaurant called Tabona in Pluit, we decided to give it a try.
So we ordered "
Bihun Kari Ayam" 21K with a glass of "
sirop terong belanda" 11K, the taste was actually not bad, but SC reckons that the price was not worth it and he prefer Bihun Kari Ayam we had at
RM Kosasih - pasar muara karang. Moreover, the curry is not as rich as the original version in Medan.

This place was very recommended by SC, he took me there last weekend for dinner :) its located on "Kaki Lima" not far from Sunter Mall, there's lots of interesting food stall there. I notice that most of it were from Pontianak food. Ayam Goreng Single Borobudur offer their delicious and crispy fried chicken, plus other gorengan like : tempe goreng, tempe bacem, tahu goreng, usus goreng (one of their speciality) served with a plate of kremesan ayam, nasi uduk plus a very hot sambal terasi.
