MOF

I've been wanting to try MOF Japanese Sweets for several weeks, but couldn't find the right time since we're always too full after dinner to try another place for dessert (yes, we are not that young and adventurous anymore). So, I decided that we should try this place first before having dinner :P The place is not big, but it feels cozy. The menu ranged from Japanese dessert to gelato. They also have several selections of sandwich & bento, though I'm not sure how they're going to prepare that in such tiny kitchen. I ordered Tonkatsu Salmon Sandwich 35K and Chocolate Gelato with waffle 29K. They have several dishes with tonkatsu in their names, but I didn't find any sign of tonkatsu (AKA pork cutlet) in my salmon spread sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was nice. The waffle with gelato was surprisingly good. I liked the texture of the waffle that was thick but still crunchy. The dark chocolate gelato was also delicious, topped with dark chocolate bits and sliced almond. My only complaint was that the portions are too small. Overall, it was quite pricey for dessert. :)

Rakuzen
Posted by jeny at 10:08 PM
Last weekend, we have dinner at Rakuzen Japanese restaurant at Pacific Place. This is our second visit and this time I wanted to try the nabe menu. After scanning the menu for a while, I decided to order kaisen kami nabe (assorted seafood cooked in paper hotpot) 95K while SC ordered ebi kakiage jyu (fried prawn and vegetables on rice served with miso soup) 65K. The hotpot is presented attractively in a paper-covered metal bowl, with a small burner underneath. The vegetables, tofu, mushroom, salmon, prawn, scallop, and oyster, among others, are placed on top of the paper and poured with broth. As I waited for the nabe to boil over, I sampled some of SC's order. It tasted good, but the kakiage reminded me so much of bala bala (Indonesian mixed vegetables fritter). The hotpot tasted delicious too, with fresh ingredients and tasty soup. Although the prices were quite pricey for those portions, I think they're worth a try. Plus their ocha is free :)

Tokio Joe
Posted by jeny at 4:04 PM
This is the first time I went to Tokio Joe since they moved from Mandarin Oriental Hotel to Nikko Hotel. When I found out that they offer a 50% discount on ala carte menu for users of RBS credit card, I contacted my friends to meet there. We decided to have an early dinner on Saturday afternoon. When we arrived, the place was quiet since it was still too early for dinner. We ordered green tea 20K, then dobinmushi 49K, mixed mushroom soup 70K, assorted tempura 99K, handsome joe (Tokio Joe's signature fusion sushi which consist of deep fried prawn and avocado) 80K and baked scallops 130K. Overall, the dishes were still as good, although the dobinmushi's portion could've been bigger. The mixed mushroom soup cooked in foil is delicious, but the most delicious thing we had that night is baked scallops. The scallops were fresh and topped with a thick layer of cheese. It was delicious. We didn't order any dessert since we're planning to have dessert some place else. :)

takoyaki
I heard about this Takoyaki seller several months ago and I urged SC to try it with me. So one night, we went to Melawai area and start looking for this place. From what I heard, it was just a stall perched in front of Kushigin Japanese restaurant at Melawai IX street, but it we couldn't find it. Later we decided to park and go on foot to find the place. We finally found it in a Padangnese restaurant called Padang Sisi. It was quite weird to found a Takoyaki seller inside a restaurant serving West Sumatra dishes. We ordered a portion of Takoyaki (たこ焼き) 25K for 12pcs and watched them prepare the dish. It was quite good, but slightly dangerous as there are plenty of opportunities to burn your tongue if you're not careful :P

Hakone Japanese Restaurant
Posted by jeny at 10:49 AM
Last month, we read on the newspaper that PX Pavilion is giving 50% discount for dining in their restaurants. Since we haven't been to these restaurants, we decided to give it a try. However, we've just had our lunch so we only sampled a little in each restaurant we visited. Our first stop was Hakone Japanese Restaurant. The restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. We got a seat and began to order. We ordered sanma shioyaki (mackarel grilled with salt) 35K, gyu tan / 牛タン (grilled beef tongue) 22K, nasu / ナス (grilled eggplant) 6K, and crispy soft shell crab 33K with 3 ocha @5K to share. Overall, the dishes were great. The shioyaki was decent with quite generous portion, the gyutan and nasu also tasted good, and the price was surprisingly affordable, even without the discount :)

Zenya

Last weekend, we're spending some time in Djakarta Theatre waiting for Friday night traffic to resolve. While waiting, we tried this restaurant called Zenya, which looks to be reasonably priced (we scanned the menu before going in) and offered discount if we pay with BCA credit card. So we went inside and ordered: chuka idako (baby octopus with special sauce), dobin mushi 20K, mini donburi oyakodon 45K that came with a bowl of wakame udon and nandos (sushi containing softshell crab, unagi, cream cheese, avocado and mayonaise). Overall the meal was good. The oyakodon was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the udon was delicious. The fusion sushi was decent, although they seemed to use shaved cheese instead of cream cheese. The price is much more reasonable than En, so it was worth to try. :)

En Japanese Dining Bar
Posted by jeny at 6:40 PM
2 Weeks ago, I went to meet SC at Plaza Indonesia and we decided to get something to eat before heading home. After deliberating for a while, we picked En Japanese Dining Bar. When we entered, the place was quite empty as it was still 5 PM. The interior has a chic minimalist style, but the lighting is a bit too dark for my taste :) The restaurant serves Okinawan cuisine that is influenced quite strongly by Chinese cuisine. No wonder we found a number of Chinese dishes in the menu.

En Japanese Dining Bar

We ordered Mabou Tofu (stir fried tofu served with minced pork) 49K and Suchika (broiled pork marinated with salt and served with lemon) 55K to go with gohan (steamed rice) 12K and ocha 12K. To be honest, the mabo tofu tasted decent but not superb and I was very disappointed to find the Suchika looking like deep-fried thin slices of pork belly and tasted so salty that we might mistake it for ikan asin goreng had we not read the menu. And most of all, we felt the restaurant was too pricey. With such prices I can get a heavenly meal at Ootoya and furthermore, their genmaicha is free.

[CLOSED] Ginseng Garden
Posted by jeny at 4:29 PM
About 2 months ago, we went to a Korean restaurant called the Ginseng Garden at FX lifestyle mall. As the name suggests, several dishes with ginseng ingredient are prominently displayed in their menu. When we entered, we realized that we were their only customer. I wondered whether potential patrons were put off by the mere mention of ginseng. So we ordered Sam Gye Tang (ginseng chicken soup) 107K, as I love dishes that use ginseng/herbal medicine, and dolsot bimbimbap 50K. They don't have much ban chan to offer, only 4 small plates of kimchi, pickles, and sweet pumpkin puree which tasted good. The ginseng chicken soup was big enough for 3-4 people to share since the chicken is stuffed with ginseng and glutinuous rice. It was very fullfiling and healthy, and also delicious, I love the warm and fragrant soup and tender chicken. Their dolsot bimbimbap was also great. :)

Ryoshi
Posted by jeny at 12:15 PM
Another Japanese restaurant we tried while we were in Bali besides Take is Ryoshi. They have several outlets in Bali, so one night, we decided to try it. We chose the one at Kartika Bali Garden Hotel. We arrived around 7PM, but the place was empty. The interior is Japanese with tatami seating at the corner. Dim lighting makes this place feels a bit shabby. Anyway, we ordered saba shioyaki (grilled mackarel with salt) set and cold soba. I forgot how much we paid for our meal, but it was in the reasonable range. The meal was quite good, but nothing really stand out. I'd still prefer Take over this place.

Take
Posted by jeny at 12:49 PM
That night, we decided to have something light for dinner. We found a Japanese restaurant called Take about 1 km from our hotel. The restaurant was about half full with the Japanese owner greeting and chatting with regulars. Most of the patrons were Japanese, so we had high hopes that the food here would be authentic. The menu is quite extensive, ranging from fresh sushi and sashimi, seafood, meat, tofu, and ramen. We only ordered: dobinmushi (a soup made from several types of mushroom & fish and served in a teapot with 2 teacups), gindara teriyaki and miso ramen. I love the dobinmushi. It was tasty and the mushroom & fish meat were generous. The miso ramen was also very good and tasted quite differently from ramens we usually had back in Jakarta. SC particularly loved the large pork slices in the ramen. The gindara was also great, but most of all, the price was very reasonable :)

Noah Café

Papaya is our favorite Japanese supermarket, but we've never known that on the 2nd floor of Papaya, there is a Papaya-managed cafe that serves quite delicious dishes. They serve western menu in Japanese style. That night, on a recommendation of a friend, we went there straight after dinner at Nakayoshi. The menu is quite extensive, but since we just had our dinner, we only ordered hamburger steak 75K, miso ramen with onigiri 54.5K, omurice (japanese fried rice wrapped in a thin sheet of fried egg) 54K, warabimochi set (Japanese sweet dessert made from warabi starch dipped in kinako (sweet toasted soybean flour)) 27K and ice coffee float 26K & maccha frappuccino 29K to share. Overall, the dishes tasted much better than what we had just eaten at Nakayoshi. I liked the omurice and the miso ramen is also great. The warabi mochi came with a bowl of macha tea to stabilize the sweet flavor, a bit unusual, but in a positive way. I can't wait to go back there again :)

Nakayoshi

Last month, along with several friends, I tried this little Japanese restaurant at Wijaya area that serves Japanese fusion cuisine. The restaurant is actually a house in which its living room has been converted into a dining area, so the place is small and can only comfortably hold about 30 persons. When we arrived, the place was quite empty with no waiter/waitress around. After a while, someone came and give us the menu book. We ordered: agedashi tofu (Japanese fried tofu in broth) 19K, healthy dinner set deluxe 1 77K which include: wafu salada (Wakame (sea weed), katsuo bushi (dry fish spread) ,carrot, and other vegetables served with sweet and sour dressing), Shio Jake Foiyaki Set (Salted salmon fish fried & baked in aluminium foil, served with "daikon oroshi" (soy sauce & radish)), Ogura ice cream and a pot of hot/cold ocha. Special Sukiyaki dinner set 55K (A hot pot of personal sukiyaki: shirataki (japanese vermicelli), Beef, shun-giku leaf, tofu, shiitake (mushroom) and spring onion), Yakimeshi dinner set 45K which came with Chicken tulip kara age (Deep fried chicken wings), Russian burger (Japanese style home made burger with cheese inside the burger) 36K. In my opinion, overall taste of the dishes here was just average, but much more authentic than Hoka Hoka Bento. The agedashi tofu looks weird (drenched in soup), the shio jake foiyaki was actually quite good, but it was a bit too salty, we have to eat it with rice. My main concern is that it looks like the restaurant only employs one waiter to serve. The dish took so long to appear and we're still feeling hungry after we finished all the meal. :P

Gyu-Kaku

On our last night in Jakarta, I managed to persuade my parents to treat us out at Gyu-kaku, the odd Japanese/Korean barbecue place serving grilled parts of wagyu beef. We picked their Pacific Place outlet. We entered the dark foyer to rows of booth and opted for one of them for privacy although the main dining room looks airier and brighter.

I love the intimate décor, which plays with spot lighting and dark wood. The restaurant was smoke-free too despite boasting an authentic charcoal barbecue on each table because their machine sucked the air from beneath the charcoal bucket instead of from the above. It worked. I didn't smell like smoked beef after dinner.

Last month, we noticed a new restaurant next to Urban Kitchen at Pacific Place. It's the same Japanese restaurant that has opened earlier at Senayan City, but we haven't had a chance to try it. A week later, while we're at Pacific Place again we decided to dine there. The restaurant is spacious with minimalist decor, but still feels warm and comfortable. The service was flawless. We're given hot towels for refreshment as soon as we arrived and the waiter asked if we want cold ocha or hot ocha. Turned out that ocha is free in this restaurant. The tea they used is one of my favorite Japanese tea, genmaicha, which has a faint aroma of roasted rice. The menu is exciting as there are no sushi or sashimi. Instead, we were presented with a list of dishes they claimed as Japanese home cooking. We ordered their fried eggplant vinegar sauce 20K, rice cooked with oyster set menu served in bamboo basket 79K, and cold soba served in wooden tray 35K. Turned out the dishes was very delicious. I love my fragrant rice topped with oyster, and SC was enjoying his cold soba.

Ootoya

Several days later, we're back again with friends. This time, we ordered their cold tofu 18K (I love it so much), tofu & egg soup 55K (so comforting), hot udon in wakame soup 39K (also great). We're enjoying our time there so much, we went back there again a week later with another couple of friends. This time we ordered Natto 15K (I'm not really into this thing, although SC said it's not that bad), rice with roasted chicken with plum & egg soup 59K (very hearty meal), charcoal grilled chicken salad in basil sauce 69K (perfect), while my friends ordered rice with fried beef served with kimchi 79K (very tasty according to her) and fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce 69K (I didn't taste this one, but it looked promising). Overall I think we'll be back again, dragging even more friends :P as long as they can keep their menu's authenticity :)

Still in a mood for Japananese food, we tried another Japanese restaurant at FX Sudirman. The place was quite crowded on Friday night, luckily we can get a seat at the non-smoking section inside the restaurant. It always irritates me when a restaurant puts its non-smoking section outside, because that means they are saving the best seats for smokers inside. Anyway, whenever we're in a Japanese restaurant, I always looked for donburi while SC always looked for cold soba. So we ordered Zaru Soba (brown wheat soba sprinkled with seaweed) 45K, Chirashi Don (slices of tuna and salmon sashimi, grilled unagi and tamago on sushi rice) 57.3K from the menu. The presentation of the food was very appealing, but to me the taste was only so so. My chirashi don topping didn't taste very fresh and the rice was too salty. SC's cold soba was quite delicious though he said it was just average and prefers the one at Midori :)

It has been a long time since we last visited Kiyadon. I've always liked Kiyadon for their donburi. So two weeks ago, when I was craving for another bowl of Kiyadon's donburi, we went to their joint at Pacific Place. The place is spacious, with faked tatami seater. The menu is quite varied, from appetizer & salad, sushi, sashimi, set menu, ala carte menu, nabemono, agemono, noodle dishes (udon/soba), donburi & pasta. I ordered Kinoko Don (rice bowl topped with mushroom onion and egg) special 53K. the dish came with salad, and a small plate of cold wheat soba. The dish tasted exquisite, I love the donburi so much, too bad the portion was quite small. Although the price is not cheap, I'll still return from time to time.

Ramen 38

Last month, when I was meeting SC around Sarinah for dinner, we stopped by Ramen 38 that serves authentic Japanese noodle. Ramen 38 at Wahid Hasyim is the smaller branch from the one located at Melawai street, in the 2nd floor of the same building that house Kamome Japanese Supermarket. We ordered the usual: Tonkotsu Ramen (pork bone broth soup ramen served with pork slices, wakame and topped with nori). In my opinion, the ramen at Melawai tasted better than this one. I think this ramen was too salty, but maybe that night was not my lucky night.

When I heard from several friends that Shabu Tei was giving 50% discount for their meal if paid with BCA credit card, I was so excited to try it. So I asked my friend if she wanted to break fasting there. She agree and we went to the Plaza Semanggi branch. We had a great time there but too bad I didn't bring my camera. Several weeks later, a couple of friends, SC and I went to Mall Taman Anggrek branch for dinner. The place was very crowded, there's a small queue in front of the restaurant, but luckily we didn't have to wait long to get a table.
Shabu Tei

We ordered agedashi tofu 19K, spicy salmon salad (fresh salmon with spicy mayonaise sauce) 16K, wagyu prime rib eye (large) 139K served with shitake mushrooms, enoki, spring onions, carrot, bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage, radish, tofu, udon and steam rice. plus an additional order mix seafood (large) 95K, tempura moriawase (fried ebi tempura & mixed vegetables) served with miso soup & steam rice 54K. Overall, the meals were delicious although their salmon salad portion was smaller than the one I had before. The service was a bit slow (maybe it's because the restaurant was full and they're low on staff as it was still in holiday season).

Last Month, we visited this Japanese restaurant located in the same area with Warung Ngalam for dinner. The restaurant is on the second floor. The interior was spacious, dimly lit, but still feels cozy & warm. The service was quite good, and the menu is extensive. That night, we ordered Chasoba 35K for SC and Oyako Jyu 31K for me. For dessert, we ordered Ogura ice cream 9K. In my opinion, both of the dishes tasted great. My Oyako Jyu was quite delicious although the portion was a bit too small for a girl with a very big stomach like me :P The cold soba also tasted delicious. It came with a bowl of soup and a raw bird egg to put inside the soup. I like the soup taste very much. After dinner, each of us were given a plate of complimentary fruit. I think we'll be back as soon as we have the chance since I'm dying to try their cute kids bento :)

Pasta De Waraku

pasta de waraku

Last month, a restaurant chain opens its first restaurant at Grand Indonesia. The place is called "Pasta the Waraku", a franchise from Singapore, serving all kinds of pasta in Japanese style. When we arrived there on a friday night, there was already a small queue in front of the restaurant. So we took our number and waited for about fifteen minutes. The restaurant is located on a section of Grand Indonesia that is called the garden district, which is heavily decorated in Japanese style. However, the decorations felt weird and the section is dark with several spotlights punctuating the decorations. As for the restaurant itself, it isn't big, but cleverly arranged, with good lighting and mirrors blanketing the walls, making the restaurant seems much larger. The front display shows a very attractive real size menus, plus they separate the smoking and non smoking sections.

3 weeks ago, on Valentine's day, we had dinner with several friends at Ajihara, an old school Japanese izakaya located at Melawai area. This place is our favorite spot when we want to have real Japanese cuisine, and it's mostly frequented by Japanese expatriates. That's why I think the place is authentic (compared to the famous & chic: sushi tei or other Japanese restaurants inside Jakarta's many shopping centres).

After reading the article on Kompas, Last week we visited a place called Kikugawa, maybe this is the oldest Japanese restaurant in Jakarta (open since 1969). I like the entrance of this place, it looks like a mini Japanese garden. The restaurant was decorated in a simple and humble Japanese style, dimly lit lighting created a warm ambience, with red covered table and bamboo chair. Japanese intrumental music was playing in the background.

Tokio Joe

Last weekend was TokioJoe's birthday and they gave away 50% discount on ala carte menu. So we decided its the right time for us try it. We arrived about 10 minutes to six, and there's already people queue in front of the restaurant waiting for it to open. We got a table in the middle of the room and start ordering : "sencha" (refillable) 13K, mixed mushrooms soup (cooked in aluminium foil) 49K, assorted sashimi : "sake" (salmon) 89K, "tai" (red sea bream) 65K, "tako"(octopus) 85K, "tuna carpaccio" 130K. For sushi we ordered : Dragon's Eye 77K. Overall It was not bad, fresh wasabi & fresh sashimi but the sushi is kind of disappointed :( but maybe we should try it again some other time when the place is not full house.

Pepper Lunch
Posted by jeny at 6:45 PM
Several weeks ago we visited "pepperlunch" for dinner, Its a very popular fastfood selfservice restaurant from Japan. I want to visit this place for so long, but didn't have a chance, so even though we heard not so good review about this place from several friends, I decided that I must try it myself. There's about 15 package menu to choose (but shimofuri peppersteak 67,273K was sold out), so we picked : "Hitokuchi" Cut Steak 46,364K, Salmon Pepper Rice 41,818K and Beef Pepper Rice 37,273K. The package come with white rice and softdrink (you can change it into greentea). after paying at the counter we were given a number of our table. there's a big LCD screen ever corner that show us how to cooked our meal. After 10 minutes our meal came in sizzling hot pot & we began to mixed it with the sauce provided on the table (garlic soy sauce & honey brown sauce). Overall it was good, the meat was so tender, the pepper rice package to me tasted like "nasi goreng", and it was very very tasty (it think it depends on how much sauce we pour into the meal). But shortly after finished my meal, I began to feel my throat became rough and very sore, and a bit thirsty. :( after that I think I'll never came to this place so often :P

Arang 22
Posted by jeny at 10:06 PM
We had dinner here with a couple of friends at the very first day of 2007, actually we're planning to go to "Ajihara" but apparently it was closed that day. In my opinion Arang serve quite authentic Korean Cuisine, the place ambience are light, warm & cozy, we ordered : "jap chae" ( vermicelli noodle stir fried in sesame oil with sliced beef and various vegetable) 65K, "dolsot bibimbab" (Korean mixed vegetables rice) 48K, "Budae jjigae" (a spicy soup which consist of sausages, canned pork meat, kimchi, and various type of vegetables) 110K, "Yukhoe" ( raw mince beef mixed together with raw egg and a sesame oil) 105K and "sam gyeop sal" (pork bacon & slice of garlic grilled on a metal plate, usually eaten with shisho leaves) 55K. Overall all the dishes are delicious, although the portion of their side dish are quite small. There are several choices for complimentary dessert : red bean ice cream, cold cinnamon water & cold sweet rice water which I think is used as a cooler after we ate all those spicy food :)

They also had separate pork menu. so we ordered : Tonkotsu Soyu Ramen (noodle soup of pork and soya taste mixed) regular 32K - large 44K, Chasu Gohan (small rice with boiled pork meat) 17.5, Chirashu Gohan and Maguro Teriyaki Gohan, for drink we ordered houjicha (refill) and maccha kalpis (a mix of maccha and yogurt which tasted like calpico). Overall the dish were delicious especially the ramen, after taste the ramen here I swore I'll never go back to ajisen ramen again hehehe.

Ajisen Ramen
Posted by jeny at 6:34 PM
We went to Ajisen Ramen for quick dinner last week. It was not my fav restaurant for Japanese food but we only have half an hour before the movie start. so we quickly ordered "volcano ramen" (not halal), and chicken katsudon. while the appearance was not bad, the taste was only so so. SC's donburi was so dry and no taste and my volcano ramen only tasted hot and oily. and it got all sort of vegetable like cabbage and bean sprout that I don't expect to be found in the japanese noodle. :(

Beppu Menkan
Posted by jeny at 1:42 AM
Last month, my friend zink happen to be in Jakarta for her brother wedding. So I arranged to meet her at MTA and trying several new restaurant there. there's sushi groove & beppu menkan. since I want to try sushi groove later that night, we had early dinner at "Beppu Menkan Japanese noodle restaurant" serving mostly Ramen with different type of broth. you can also pick how many chilly to put on the soup (rate 1 - 8) from the menu. When I first try salmon ramen at plasa indonesia EX several years ago, I accidentally choose to put 8 chilly in my ramen order. turn out it was disaster :( so this time I'll stick to donburi.. and I ordered "Oyako Don" 34.546 while zink ordered "char siew ramen" regular (sliced beef :( 'char siew', egg, back fungus, seaweed, bamboo shoot, spring onion, fried garlic in kyushu soup ) 26.840 and 2 glass of ocha (re fill). my donburi came with a bowl of miso soup, it was delicious. Zink was quite disappointed with her charsiew ramen, not only the char siew was made of beef, but it also too tough to chew :(

From Sunter we headed to kelapa gading mall where I want to tried a Korean restaurant named after a first women doctor in Korean history : Dae Jang Geum. Actually I knew about this from a Korean drama series I watched : pearl in the palace. The restaurant was located inside sogo food hall at Mall Kelapa Gading III. besides dae jang geum, there were several restaurant in this place (daisho and red tomato). We decided to try their specialty : Sam Gye Tang (chicken soup with ginseng) 63.5K with extra 15K for using ayam kampong instead ayam negri :P the meal was so fulfilling for us since it got some rice porridge, at least half of ayam kampung and ginseng cooked in a delicious stock. overall the meal was so delicious, and its good for improving our health. After eating that meal I feel so warm and sleepy :)

Last weekend we had dinner at "Istana Korea" located near "Plasa Indonesia". this place used to be my old time favourite place for Korean cuisine (generous portion and reasonable price), That night we ordered : "dolsot bibimbap" 돌솥비빔밥 (Steamed rice mixed vegetable, beef and egg with chili paste in a hot stone pot) 37K and "Samgyeopsal" 삼겹살 (Unseasoned pork bacon cut from the belly, grilled with garlic and onions, dipped in ssamjjang and wrapped in lettuce leaves) 54.5K. after that they gave us several side dish which usually include "kimchi" 김치 (fermented cabbage in a mixture of ginger, garlic, green onion and chilli pepper). In my opinion the food was still delicious, but the number of side dish were not as generous as before. :P

Kin no Taki
Posted by jeny at 11:58 AM
Last weekend, I had some thing to do at XL center & 21 so we went to Plasa Semanggi. After that we stopped by Kin no Taki for early dinner. I'm not very fond of Kin no Taki, but when we saw that there's a value meal we decided to try it. So we ordered : "Karaage Chahan" (Japanese style boneless fried chicken with Japanese fried rice) 9.9K, and "Snapper Teriyaki Bento" (Snapper fish with teriyaki sauce and grilled wing skewers and Japanese salad) 18.9K, plus 1 glass of ice maccha 11K & maccha milk 12.5K. I can't complaint much about the food, it was quite ok for that price. But my ice maccha taste so sweet. when I asked them, they said that maccha means "es teh manis", I'm pretty sure that thats not what it mean. Maccha is a powdered green tea that usually used at Japanese tea ceremony. Hhmm... I guess I'll never try their maccha again.

Fuji Japanese Restaurant & Sushi BarLast weekend we had lunch with SC's friends at Fuji Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar located at Mega Mall Pluit, we always came here for time to time since the food here was quite acceptable & very very reasonable price.

After studied th menu for a while, we ordered : Oyakodon (simmered chicken, egg and onion on rice) 12K, Kakiagedon (donburi with mixed vegetables tempura fritter) 15K, Kitsune Udon (thick noodle topped with sweetened deep-fried tofu), Sashimi Moriawase (Japanese delicacy primarily consisting of very fresh seafoods, thinly sliced and served with soy sauce & wasabi) about 40K, Fuji Special Sushi (various type of nigiri sushi) about 60K, California Roll & Tempura Roll (Maki sushi). overall the food was not bad at all, but the donburi came in a rather smaller portion. I think they cut the portion to keep the price low *sigh.. apa boleh buat gara2 BBM naik*

I had dinner with some friends at a Korean Restaurant last night. I always love Korean cuisine, even the I only know a little about their language : ahn-nyong-ha-se-yo (How are you?) and kahm-sa-hahm-ni-da (Thank you), wonbin, jang dong gun, song hye kyo : the effect of too much Korean Drama hehehe :)

One of the excitement in Korean cuisine is the complementary sidedishes (banchan) that range from some types of kimchi (cabbage fermented in chili peppers), various forms of radish, kamja johrim (seasoned potato). A bowl of sticky rice with red bean made of stainless steel a cover to keep the rice warm, a small bowl of warm Kuk (soup) usually served with rice and banchan.

That night we ordered (if I'm not mistaken :P ) Bulgogi ( thinly sliced beef marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, sugar and chili pepper, cooked on a grill at the table), Bulgalbi (marinated beef ribs, cooked on a metal plate over charcoal in the center of the table), Ojing 'O Bokum (spicy pan-broiled cuttlefish), Dolsot Bibimbap (mixed rice topped with vegetables, beef and egg, and served with chili pepper paste in a heated stone bowl), Pajeon ( Korean style pancake made mostly of eggs and flour), a plate of Hoe : Korean style Sashimi usually eaten wrapped in Perilla (Daun shiso / Chinese Basil) leaves. All of that were very delicious and vanished very fast :)

[CLOSED] Aishiteru No More

Yesterday, I went to Puri Indah Mall with SC. Since we arrived near 18:00, every restaurant already full with people ending their fasting. So after browsed for some restaurant, we decided to tried "Aishiteru Japanese Restaurant". The interior didn't look very promising, typical fastfood restaurant.. we ordered "Oyakodon" ( I was crazy about all type of donburi), Original Udon, Miso Shiru and Ocha.

When It came, the meal appearance didn't look so bad, but when I dipped my chopstick into my bowl, I found out my donburi was a disaster, the rice under the eggs was soak with alot of soup, no taste, and there is alot ingredients that I didn't expect like paprika & carrot (emangnya gw sinchan?) :( hiks.... my dinner was ruined.... I WAS VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED, HOW COULD THEY SERVED THIS TO PEOPLE :(( I WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN EVERRRR HUH!!!!!!!

Ajihara
Posted by jeny at 1:09 PM
Last Friday, actually we planned to attend a wedding party, but unfortunately we forgot the actual date, the wedding is on 30th sept. So SC took me to 'Ajihara' instead.

Ajihara was located at Melawai street, the street was full of Japanese & Korean restaurant, pub & karaoke. Actually the interior was decorated in Japanese style, but not the luxurious one, but more like the kind of 'warung', but it feels cozy . This place visited mostly by Japanese ex-pat who want to spend some times with their colleagues after work.

We ordered OyakoDon (38K) and Ki Soba (47K). when we waited for our meal to arrive, they gave us a plate of complimentary dish... mmm very fresh delicious also a free flow of Ocha. The meal was very delicious in a great portion :P I thought this was the most authentic Japanese cuisine I have ever tasted so far and I promised my self to be back soon .... Oishiiiii :)

[CLOSED] Komachi

Last Friday, I visited Komatchi Restaurant with SC, lately I always like to try "Donburi"(Japanese "rice bowl dish" consisting of fish, meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice, The ingredients are often set at the last minute with egg) whenever I went to Japanese Restaurant.

This time I ordered "Katsudon" (Tonkatsu Domburi) Pork Cutlet Domburi. Katsudon is served with tonkatsu (deep fried breaded pork cutlet), egg and onions on top of the rice.) In my oppinion the pork cutlet was a little too sweet for my taste, but its OK lah ... mmm we also ordered a plate of "Gyoza" (Japanese Dumpling), and Ocha. When we finished I also bought a piece of "Onigiri" (Japanese Rice Ball). :)
