Superman Returns
Watched "Superman Returns" last weekend. I already forgot all "Superman series" I saw when i was a kid, so to me this movie was cool & amazing. but the ending was a little bit cheesy and lame :P

over the hedge
I saw Dreamworks new animation movie last week, Great animation as usual, but not as funny as "Madagaascar".
Taken from the comic strip of the same name, "Hedge". Telling the story of Verne and his woodland friends awaken from their long winter's nap to discover that a large, green hedge has cropped up right through the middle of their once-natural habitat. Enter RJ, an opportunistic raccoon who explains that the world beyond the hedge is "the gateway to the good life" where peculiar creatures called humans live to eat, rather than eat to live. "For humans," RJ proclaims, "enough is never enough." Suspicious and even a little jealous of the charismatic smooth-talking RJ, the ever cautious Verne wants to keep his blended family safely on their side of the hedge. But, proving the adage that one man's garbage is another man's--or, rather, animal's--treasure, the manipulative RJ has his own reasons for convincing the woodland band that there is little to fear and everything to gain from their over-indulgent new neighbors. Eventually, RJ and Verne form an unlikely friendship as they and their furry friends learn to coexist with--and even exploit--this strange new world called suburbia.

Xmen: The Last Stand

We saw this movie 2 weeks ago, overall the movie was not bad, lots of new mutant, the special effect was amazing, but I feel the movie was to short & everybody die this movie. :)

The Davinci Code
We watched "The DaVinci Code" last weekend at MegaMall Pluit, this movie was in my "die die must watch" movie list this year, but I was a little dissapointed to find out that it was not as good as the book.

Played by Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, Audrey Tautou as Sophie Neveu, Ian McKellen as Sir Leigh Teabing. In my opinion, The film is faithful enough to the Dan Brown's controversial bestseller novel. but I don't know if that makes me feel bored. to much talking :) The characterization and portrayal of the characters in the Book is not Depicted well in the movie. Its not a bad movie, but this movie definitely was not the one that I want to watch again & again. I guess some books are better left as books...

berbagi suami
I saw "Berbagi Suami" (Sharing A Husband) 2 weeks ago, It tells 3 separate stories of 3 women (Salma, Siti, Ming) from different level of social life who didn't know each other but share the same fate : Polygamy (commonly practiced within Indonesian society but not frequently discussed). Salma (Jajang C. Noer) : a doctor & elegant woman that have to open her heart & house to his husband's (Bang Haji) wives, Siti (Shanty) : a naive country girl that came to the city and stay with his 'Pak Lik' with his two wives (Ria Irawan and Rieke Dyah Pitaloka). after a while she was made the 3rd wife, Ming (Dominique) : a Chinese girl that work at Koh Abun's restaurant and became Koh Abun second wife.

Directed by Nia Dinata who also made "Arisan" a few years ago, played by gifted actors and actress. This movie was funny but cynical at the same time. Maybe this is the best Indonesian movie this year :)

V for VendettaI watched this last weekend, didn't know what to expect since I know nothing about this movie, and I never read the graphic novel before.SC talked me into seeing the movie, and I would have to say I'm glad he did it. The movie was more than I thought, I was stunned.. The acting, the cinematography, the visual effects & music were spectacular.

A finely complex storyline about V, Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as "V" (Hugo Weaving), Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself--and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.

I watched "Memoirs of a Geisha" last Friday, based on the popular novel by "Arthur Golden" that revealed the life of a Geisha. In the years before World War II, a Japanese child, Chiyo (Suzaka Oghu) sold to an Okiya, a house for geisha., Chiyo/Sayuri ( Ziyi Zhang) is resigned to a life of hardship and abuse. Raised amongst geishas, including the bitter Hatsumomo ( Gong Li ) , Sayuri dreams of their educated and venerated lifestyle. When Mameha (Michelle Yoeh) comes looking for her, she begins her long training to become a geisha. With her unusual blue-grey eyes, Sayuri rises to power, commanding the attention of every man she meets, and enraging Hatsumomo further. Nevertheless, all the adoration in the land can't help satisfy Sayuri's love for the one person, The Chairman (Ken Watanabe), who was kind to her while she was a little girl.

Personally I think this is a stunning movie, beautiful cinematography, thoughtful, touching and emotional film. If you enjoy a good love story, then you'll enjoy Memoirs of a Geisha. :)

Jan 6 |King Kong

kingkongLast week i went to watch Peter Jackson's remake of "Kingkong" with some friends :) at Plasa Semanggi.

I don't remember anymore the original movie since I'm still very small when I saw it. The story is about an ambitious filmmaker, Carl Denham, sails off to remote Skull Island to film his latest epic with leading lady, Ann Darrow. Native warriors kidnap Ann to use as a sacrifice as they summon "Kong" with the local witch doctor. But instead of devouring Ann, Kong saves her. Kong is eventually taken back to New York where he searches high and low for Ann, eventually winding up at the top of the Empire State Building, facing off against a fleet of World War I fighter planes.

In my opinion this movie was simply amazing, although its a bit to long (more than 3 hours), and the first 45 minutes quite boring (dont see the kong), the special effect was cool (thx WETA) and the "Kong" emotions really cool (bravo Andy Serkis - the actor who portrays Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and now in Kingkong). One of the best movies this year.

I spent most of my holiday watching a korean drama series called : Jewel in the Palace (Dae Jang Geum). A historical drama set in the sixteenth-century court of the Korean Emperor. Based on a true story Jewel in the Palace the story of Jang-Geum, the first woman in Korea to become the King's personal physician in the Royal Palace. In a time when women held little influence in society, a palace girl - Jang-Geum (Lee Young-Ae) learn the secrets of Korean cooking and medicine in order to cure The King's various illnes. But palace conspiracies and intrigues impede Jang-Geum, as her fellow ladies compete to earn the King's favor and secure the top female positions in the Royal Kitchen. But Jang-Geum is far from ordinary. With her remarkable determination and wisdom, she takes on even greater odds, challenging numerous foes and even society to achieve a position never-before-held by a woman in Korean history!

What worth to watch : *    The palace intrigue and politics
*    The cooking scene & food preparation were amazing, the food makes me drool in the middle of the night :P
*    The medical cases decribed here were interesting : Traditional Korean medicine with Chinese acupuncture and herbs.
*    the love story between Jang-Geum and Min Jung-ho, and the love of a king for her. Although in history the real Jang-Geum did not have an affair with the King. She really did achieve the impossible by herself. The series added the love line in no doubt to make it more interesting
Overall, this drama is simply outstanding!!! The best drama I have ever seen, it's so different than other Korean drama.. no dumb / fake love triangle.. etc.. I'm planning to buy one for my mom, I guess she will love this one :)

Dec 15 |Narnia

I watched "The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" last Monday. From the books of C.S Lewis classic telling the adventure of 4 kids (Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter Pevensieve) entering the world of Narnia through the magic wardrobe, Under the help of Aslan (The Lion) they fight the evil witch (Jadis) that call herself the queen of Narnia.

I have read the books before, and I am amazed at how well they adapted the tale to fit into a neat little 2 hour time frame, not any important part was left or twisted . Overall it is a very enjoyable movie, the acting were excellent and the special effects was absolutely stunning :P its truly a family movie :)

I got 2 free ticket to watch "Wallace & Gromit in the curse of were-rabbit" last weekend. The teater was full of children as usual :) The story is about the adventure of the inventor / cheese-loving Wallace & his faithfull dog Gromit who own vegetable protection agency "Anti-Pesto," set out to discover the mystery behind the garden sabotage that plagues their village and threatens the annual giant vegetable contest.

It was a very funny and colorful movie. There are plenty of jokes (some a bit cheeky) as well as some great tributes to past Science Fiction movies. The animation was amazing, I just can't believed they did this all in stop animation. woww..... one of my favourite animation movie of this year.

I watched "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" on Monday night at Djakarta Theater (thx SC for getting us tickets) .

I'm one of Harry Potter fans, so I'm a bit disappointed to see that this film was not loyal to the book, there were a lot of scene in the books didn't came out in the film. I understand that its impossible to put about 700+ pages books in the movie but sometimes they changed the plot. But if you are one of Harry Potter fans, I think you should watch this movie.. the cinematography & special effect was amazing :) its darker that previous 3. hmmmm i wish they did make it in IMAX version :)

chicken littleit all begins when one day i received an sms from my friend, he said "Jenz, don't be mad ya, i just watched chicken little and I think he looks alot like you". So last Monday, when SC asked me if I want to watch "Chicken Movie", I said yes...Its a 3D animation movie tells the story of one little chicken with his 3 best friends and their adventure in finding out the alliens are coming to destroy earth. quite funny... created by Disney not Pixar. Not as good as I expected but OK lah :)

I watched Raining Cats and Frogs (La Prophetie des Grenouilles) last night, it was a French 2D animation movie from the Folimage studio. Very unique and beautifully rendered, kind of movie that makes you remember your childhood. :)

The story was based on the prophecy of frogs, that there will be a 40 night & 40 days rain. The frog then warn Tom & Lily about the upcoming big flood. When the rain came, they use a barn as a floating house and live on that with all the animals from the zoo nearby. Kind of the remaking of Noah's Ark story. :)

Phua Chu Kang Lately every Saturday 8:00 PM whenever I was at home, I always turn on my TV to watch "Phua Chu Kang" at Jak-TV , its a very popular sitcom from Media Corp TV Channel 5.

The series tell the stories of 'Phua Chu Kang' and his family, Phua Chu Kang here described as a curly hair man, unusually large mole, and always wear yellow boots and has a professions as a contractor a contractor who boasts that he is the "best in Singapore, JB, and some say Batam". He portrayed Singaporean slang for a stereotypical uneducated Chinese man, complete with habits such as hoisting one leg up on the seat of a chair when he sits down and growing one long fingernail to scratch his ears.

The show was very funny, using Singlish with Chinese dialect. I am curious if this show available in vcd/dvd?

charlie and the Chocolate factory

I watched "Charlie and Chocolate Factory" yesterday night, a new Tim Burton movie based on Roald Dalh's Popular novel.

It tells the story about a poor boy Charlie Bucket who can only afford 1 Chocolate bar a year, along with 4 other kids won golder ticket to visit a magnificence chocolate factory run by the eccentric Willy Wonka(Johnny Depp) and his staff of Oompa-Loompas.

In my opinion it was an amazing movies, full of beautiful cinematography, wacky humors, bizarre character and a good soundtrack. I trully enjoyed this film, its a children movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family :)

fantastic four

I watched "The Fantastic Four" last monday at Jakarta Teater. I'm not a big fan of any superheroes movie, so I only came to watch the speciall effect.

Fantastic Four tell the stories of 4 astrounaut astronauts got contaminated while in outer space and that cause the changes of their DNA, and they become superheroes.

Reed Richards(Mr. Fantastic) can elongate his body; Susan Storm(Invisible Woman) can become invisible; Johnny Storm(Human Torch) can shoot fire from his finger tips and bend flame; and Ben Grimm(The Thing) became a hideously misshapen monster with superhuman strength, together they battle the evil Doctor Doom.

In my oppinion, its an enterteining movie but not a great movie. but not bad lah for killing time on Monday afternoon. Happy watching :)

I watched "Batman Begins" last week, since I'm not one of Batman big fans, so I'm not expecting much from this movie. But it turned out I was quite impressed :) This movie was great, telling the stories of Bruce Wayne from a child untill he become a superhero. What impressed me most if the process of little Bruce to defeat his fear of bats. He travels the world in search of himself and the means to avenge his parents death. He returns to Gotham City and fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful, unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

Overall its a good movie, very enjoyable :)

Kamikaze Girl Just Watch a cute & unique movie by Kyoko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya called "Kamikaze Girls" (Shimotsuma Monogatari). Kamikaze Girls tells a story about the friendship between two very different character : Momoko and Ichigo. Momoko was a young student infatuated in 19th century Baroque Rococo style, live in her own world of fantasy without any friend until she met Ichigo, a biker-girl who has a very different personality from the polite momoko. Many people would find Momoko's fashions absurd, but, in fact, this movie is filled with absurdity, from the hairstyles of some characters to their behavior. It is like anime come alive, with only enough of an emphasis on reality to keep the story grounded.

This movie fun & enjoyable, I loved it, and I am going to watch it again and again . :)

Jun 22 |Madagascar

Last Monday, I saw "Madagascar" with SC, the movie was very funny that make us laughing through the whole movie! The story was based on the friendship of Alex (the lion), Gloria (the Hippo), Marty (the Zebra) and Melvin (the Giraffe). When Marty was missing, the other three break out of the zoo looking for him, and eventually all four are captured and put in boxes to ship them back to the continent their species are originally from: Africa. An accident at sea, however, strands them on the shore of Madagascar. Being raised at Central Park Zoo in New York City, they had no ideas how surviving in the wild. Great & entertaining movie but the character "Alex" reminded me alot of Simba - "The Lion King". VERY RECOMMENDED :)

Howl The Moving CastleFinnaly I got a chance to watch Hayao Miyazaki latest movie "Howl the Moving Castle (Hauru no ugoku shiro). Great movie as usual, full of imagination but some how I like his previous movie better than this one.. but its worth to watch :)

Howl's Moving Castle tells the story of Sophie, a girl doomed to an uninteresting life as a hat maker. But her boring fate soon change, She was for her. Cursed by the Witch of the Waste with the body of a 90-year-old woman, she finds her way to the moving castle inhabited by the wizard Howl, said by all to eat the souls of young girls. Howl has been cursed by the Witch as well, and is seeking the love of young girl to help him break the curse.

Jun 15 |Full House

I borrowed a Korean drama series called "Full House" from zink2 last week. A fun & sweet love story of 2 very different person, a famous actor (Rain) and an ordinary woman (Song Hye Kyo) - how they learn to love each other in a marriage agreed upon only on paper. It also explores the meaning of the family by presenting no matter how hard the present may seem, the world is still a good place because of those who bring hopes into our lives through their presence alone.

This drama features diverse characters: considerate, caring, frank, patient, sticking to the life's basic values. But no matter how different the personalities, everyone finds happiness in the end.

moment to remember Watched this movie last week, recommended by my friend, she said "you'll be crying seeing this movie". At first its a little bit boring - just a typical romance movie, but after a while, I changed my mind. Its a very touching sad love story. Its a love story of Su-Jin (Son Yae Jin) and Chol-Su (Jung Woo Sung), they meet under seemingly average, normal circumstances. Su-Jin is exiting an affair with a married man, and Chol-Su is working for Su-Jin's father as a carpenter, and when they finally meet it's as if it was meant to be. Their love is affectionate and their marriage as close to perfect as can be...but is fate truly that kind? Su-Jin surprisingly contracts Alzheimer's disease, and the tragic struggle they face both threatens and strengthens their love. But for how long? As Su-Jin's memory begins to leaves her, the disease they face may turn out to be too much for even a love as strong as theirs...

In my opinion its a Korean version of "The Notebook" but with a different twist. but its worth to watch :)

starwarsLast Monday finnaly I got a chance to watch Starwars Episode III : Revenge of The Sith @ Setiabudhi 21. I'm not a fans of Starwars but I think movies was worth to watch. The third and final installment in the Star Wars prequel trilogy - the sixth Star Wars movie overall. This movies tell the stories of Anakin Skywalker's turn to the Dark Side of the Force, the continuing Clone Wars and the final fate of the Old Republic should be revealed. Cool :)

Apr 29 |Singles

SinggeuljeuLately I have been watching alot of korean movie, one of them was Singles (Singgeuljeu). It tells a story about "contemporary" love relationships of four singles in their late twenties, and their struggles with work, love, and life.

I like the friendship between NA Nan and Dong-mii and how they support each other through hard times. I especially like the ending part of the movie, though it wasn't a happy ending ones. When Nan said "I haven't achieve any of my goal before I turn 30, which is getting married or be a successful career women, but who care. So what gitu lho :P". In my oppinion this is a worth seeing movie.

One of my friend suggest me to watch this serial. Its a Showtime Network television show, telling the story of a group of lesbians in Los Angeles. In my opinion this serial was a honest portray of lesbian world, It take a smart, sexy and fun look at hopes, dreams and lives of these people as they deal with things like career struggles, relationships issues and the pressures of tying to start at family. The show provides a fresh look at everyday life, told with passion, frankness and humor.

I watched this movie yesterday at Setiabudhi21 yesterday. This is the story of three orphan siblings: Violet, Claus, and Sunny Bauedelaires looking for a new home after their parents was killed in misterious fire that destroyed their house too. First they were placed under the care of their relative Count "evil" Olaf (Jim Carrey), who always try to snatch their inheritance from them.

In my oppinion it was a very enjoyable movie, darker than Harry Potter i guess. I have never read any of the Lemony Snicket's books before, but I think I'm gonna run to nearest books store & start reading hehehe.

Last night i watched "After the Sunset" played by Pierce Brosnan as Max Burdett and Salma Hayek as Lola Cirillo. It tells the stories of a master thief (Max Burdett) retires to an island paradise with the girl he loves (Lola) after a successful last score. His lifelong nemesis, a crafty FBI agent, washes ashore to ensure he's making good on his promise. The pair soon enters into a new game of cat-and-mouse.

In my oppinion, there's nothing new from this movie, just an old "thief movie" cliche. But the movie make me laugh. So after all its quite entertaining lah.

Feb 2 |WindStruck

Finally I managed to watch this movie last monday. After "My Sassy Girl" (2001) has probably become the most recognizable South Korean film in the world, Then this year come "Windstruck (Nae Yeojachingureul Sogaehamnida)" also starring by Jeon Jihyeon.

The movie revolves around a love story between a young, pretty maverick policewoman Gyeongjin (Jeon Jihyeon) and a girls' high school teacher Go Myeongu (Jang Hyeok), who will do anything for her. It was quite funny at first.. but after a while the whole atmosphere changed.. it became so touching. Some of my friend confess to me that they cried during this movie.

It is a nice movie.it is a nice blend of action, romance and ghostly movie. I think it is a worth watching kind of movie.

I watched an indian movie last friday :P hehehe you're gonna think i'm a bollywood movie fan.. The truth is I'm already looking foward to watch this movie since I missed it at jiffest last nov. Since it was showing at Jiffest (Jakarta International Film Festival) I think it was worth seeing.

And the movie turn out very different from the usual indian movies, offcourse full of music :) but different kind of music, very funny. it tells the stories of an Indian girls fall in love to a rich ,snobbish American boy. simple.. but full with color, indian culture. this movie is funny as well as emotional and has all the stuff required in making a good movie one must go and see this movie and expect it to be like a bollywood film and the person will not be disappointed.this is a truly different movie and is worth a watch.

After lunch, we watched "The Phantom of the Opera". I'm a big fan of Andrew Lloyd Weber works, and this one was my "die die must see" movies of the year. So I dragged my friend to watch this... it turns out she love this movie too.

This romantic musical epic is about a mysterious masked figure, Erik, who roams the undergrounds of 19th century Paris, centering his activity around (or under) the Opera Populaire, where he tutors a beautiful young soprano, Christine, who goes on to upstage the city's most famous opera singer, Carlotta. The Phantom thinks he's found love, until Christine's childhood boyfriend, Vicomte de Chagny shows up.

It is a visually stunning movie - the costuming and sets are as extravagant and lavish as the music. The music was amazing, I can't help to sing along the movie since I know most all the song. I can't wait to see it again and again and again..... :)

I watched "National Treasure" on friday night. In my opinion this movie just like of a new adventure of Indiana Jones combined with Robert Langdon(davinci code), quite entertaining but i was not very thrill. It tells the story of Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage) has been searching for a treasure no one believed existed : The National Treasure. The fact that this movie produced by disney makes me feel this movie was supposed to be a children / family movies. The movie seems terrified to let a scene sit still long enough for you to relax and sleep hehehehe. But some of my friend seems to think that this movie was amazing... well everyone has theirs own thought :)

Yesterday night I watched "Super Size Me" A film of epic portions by Morgan Spurlock. Usually I got bored when I watch documentary movie, but this one was different.

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, rejected five times by the USC film school, won the best director award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival for this alarmingly personal investigation into the health hazards wreaked by our fast food nation. Under extensive medical supervision, Spurlock subjects himself to a steady diet of McDonald's cuisine for 30 days just to see what happens. In less than a week, his ordinarily fit body and equilibrium undergo dark and ugly changes: Spurlock grows fat, his cholesterol rockets north, his organs take a beating, and he becomes subject to headaches, mood swings, symptoms of addiction, and lessened sexual energy. The gimmick is too obvious to sustain a feature documentary; Spurlock actually spends most of the film probing insidious ways that fast food companies worm their way into school lunchrooms and the hearts of young children who spend hours in McDonald's playrooms.

That documentary was really inspiring and made me realize how fattening not only mcdonalds, but any fast food restaurant is. Not only did it provide interesting facts, it also was very funny. And after seeing this documentary, I will never eat fast food again.

It tells the story about an eastern immigrant, Viktor Navorski who finds himself stranded in JFK airport because a war breaks out and erases his country from the map, meaning that his passport and paperwork are no longer valid thus he is denied entrance to the U.S. So he must take up temporary residence there.
