Mama Cafe
Posted by jeny at 2:25 PM
Last month, as we were having lunch with several friends at Milan restaurant, I read Lita's tweet about coconut rum ice cream at Mama Cafe. I suddenly wanted to try it and since the place was not too far away from Milan, we decided to head there for dessert. Mama Cafe is located at the lobby floor of Mediterania Apartment. It's not big but the atmosphere is cheerful. It's a great place to enjoy Sunday afternoons when there are no smokers around. That day's specialty is kahlua ice cream, so I decided to try both coconut rum & kahlua ice cream, while SC enjoyed his portion of chocolate & rum raisin ice cream. It was delicious and I can still feel the coconut flakes in the ice cream. The kahlua was also great. When we're finished and ready to get home, the owner of the cafe provided us with a generous sample of her new 'local durian ice cream'. When I tried it at home, it tasted superb. The durian taste was smooth but flavorful. I can't wait to return and have some more :)

MOF
Posted by jeny at 10:26 PM
I've been wanting to try MOF Japanese Sweets for several weeks, but couldn't find the right time since we're always too full after dinner to try another place for dessert (yes, we are not that young and adventurous anymore). So, I decided that we should try this place first before having dinner :P The place is not big, but it feels cozy. The menu ranged from Japanese dessert to gelato. They also have several selections of sandwich & bento, though I'm not sure how they're going to prepare that in such tiny kitchen. I ordered Tonkatsu Salmon Sandwich 35K and Chocolate Gelato with waffle 29K. They have several dishes with tonkatsu in their names, but I didn't find any sign of tonkatsu (AKA pork cutlet) in my salmon spread sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was nice. The waffle with gelato was surprisingly good. I liked the texture of the waffle that was thick but still crunchy. The dark chocolate gelato was also delicious, topped with dark chocolate bits and sliced almond. My only complaint was that the portions are too small. Overall, it was quite pricey for dessert. :)

Sop Ubi Jahe "Pancoran"
Posted by jeny at 8:52 AM
Last week, when I was walking past Pancoran area, I noticed a small sign on the side walk bearing the name "Pancoran - Teddy". The stall offers various kinds of warm dessert such as: bubur kacang ijo, bubur kacang tanah, bubur kacang merah, ubi, jali-jali and telor teh. I remembered that this is one of SC's favorit desserts, so I stopped by and ordered sop ubi jahe 9K and sop kacang tanah 9K. It was delicious, the combination of warm ginger soup with the sweet potato is perfect. The sop kacang tanah is also delicious, especially with the addition of coconut milk.

Bibliotheque

From Tokio Joe, we went to Bibliotheque for dessert. It's said to be one of the new hip places in Jakarta and from what I heard, they have a nice concept. Because we arrived without reservation, I'm a bit hopeless that we can get a table. Luckily, it was still early Saturday night, so the place wasn't crowded yet and we can get a table until 9:30PM. Bibliotheque's interior is designed to look like an old british library with parquet flooring, high ceiling, mezzanine floor, high window panel, complete with bookshelves and ladder covering the wall. They've already put on Christmas decoration and Christmas jazz music played in the background, making the ambience warm and comfortable. Even the restroom looked nice :)

Marmalade Pantry is another new franchise from Singapore with the slogan GOOD THINGS TO EAT. Their menu varied from salad to sandwich, risotto, pasta etc. But I came simply for their dessert. On our first visit, we ordered a devil food cake 35K. The cake was still warm, topped with melted chocolate and generous almond slices. It was sinfully delicious. I surely will be back for more :)

Helen's Patisserie
Posted by jeny at 2:29 PM
Still in Lebaran season, we went to Bekasi for a friendly gathering. On our way back, I was suddenly craving for something sweet. So we turned to Senopati area to look for desserts and we came by a place called Helen's fine food & patisserie. I've tried it several years ago and found their desserts quite delicious. So we went inside and ordered a piece of warm chocolate cake 30K and black forest cake 19K. Both tasted exquisite. We didn't try their main courses, but I've heard praises for those too. Well, I guess there'll be another visit, but I don't know when :)

Siam Garden
Posted by jeny at 2:58 PM
Already quite full from 3 restaurants we visited before, we headed to Siam Garden just to try their dessert. Upon arriving, we asked whether there is a 50% discount and they answered that it only applies for food. Initially, I want to order Thai Mango Sticky Rice (kao niao ma muang), but it was not available so we ordered Cassava in coconut milk 9K and Durian Sticky Rice 22K instead. To be honest, the desserts didn't look appealing although the taste was acceptable. After we finished eating, we asked for the receipt, and found out that there was no discount at all. We complained and they adamantly said that the discount only applies for food, so we asked: "weren't the desserts count as food?" After a while, they finally gave us the discount and said that it was only for this once. It was actually not much, but I just didn't like their attitude. Well, I guess I'll never visit this place again.

Capocaccia
Posted by jeny at 9:04 AM
Three weeks ago, we went to Pacific Place for some grocery shopping. Before that, I insisted that we had lunch first. So we entered a restaurant called Capopaccia, an Italian Sandwich bar. Since we're cheap and the meal prices at Capocaccia are quite high, we only ordered one portion of Astolfo sandwich 57K and tiramisu 60K to share. The service was flawless, even though we didn't look like the people who frequents this place. The meal came not long after we ordered and the waiter offered to cut it into 2 pieces. I have to admit that it was the best sandwich I've ever had. The bread was crisp, the vegetables was fresh and the meat was delicious, with generous slices of brie cheese on top of the meat. No need for any ketchup or chili sauce to go with the sandwich. It was perfect as is.

Capocaccia
After the sandwich, our Tiramisu came. Topped with dark chocolate bits, it looked so delicious. As expected, the taste was definitely above average. The cream cheese was the creamiest that I'd ever taste. Even though I still prefer Coffee Tree's tiramisu, this one was also very good. If it weren't for the high prices, we might just become Capocaccia's regular patron.

Lau's Kopitiam
Posted by jeny at 6:31 PM
Lately, kopi tiam (coffee shop) seems to have become a trend as new stores are opening left and right in the past few months. So we were curious about Lau's Kopitiam which has just opened at Emporium Mall Pluit. They offer a number of light meals, such as cakwe 5K, lumpia goreng 10K, pangsit goreng 10K, telur rebus setengah matang 5K and also heartier menus like sandwiches, mie, kwetiaw & bihun, rice dishes. It was quite crowded when we arrived. Since we've just had lunch with SC's parents, we only ordered regular kaya toast 12K with teh susu (milk tea) 10K. The kaya toast tasted delicious with old style thick bread and kaya/srikaya jam (made from coconut milk, egg and caramelized sugar). The milk tea was good too, although I suspected that they were using Lipton milk tea. :)

Flapjacks

The weather in Bali was mostly scorching hot when we were there, so this place felt like an oasis for us. Located strategically at Kartika Plaza road, this place offers various kinds of gelato, pancakes & pasta. We sat there for a couple of hours just enjoying the ice cream. On our first visit, we ordered Silver dollar pancakes medium (7 pcs) 30K and a single scoop of mango gelato 18K. Several days later, SC insisted we should return and this time, we ordered Italian salad 24K and double scoops gelato for 34K. In my opinion, the dishes taste delicious, especially the homemade gelato. The service was friendly and I love the crimson-dominated interior :)

Ottimo Deli
Posted by jeny at 12:45 PM
Last month, we visited this small place at Menteng area called Ottimo Deli. The place is a combination of a (very) small grocery, delicatessen, and pastry/cake counter, with only 2 tables for 4 people. Before we went here, I've googled this place and found out that its specialty is tiramisu. So I ordered the tiramisu 25K and SC chose their Italian chocolate cake. I'm not impressed with their tiramisu. The portion was small and the taste was mediocre at best. I much prefer the tiramisu at Coffee tree than this one.

I found this charming restaurant by accident a few months ago near Four Seasons Hotel. It grabbed my attention the second I passed by with its high colonial windows reflecting the warmth of the interior inside. So a week later, I decided to have lunch here with several friends. The place was not crowded when I arrived, I easily got a table. The interior design is cozy and charming, with an open kitchen in the middle of the room. There is also an alfresco lounge with cozy couches that looks great for hanging out after work.

Tip Top

After a light breakfast at Sinar Pagi, we continued our journey to try a noodle shop at Jl. Perdana, but we took a wrong turn and we passed by Kesawan (Ahmad Yani) street. We decided to stop for a while and try the famous Tip Top restaurant. I don't know whether this is the oldest restaurant in Medan, but the place seems to be in a good shape considering that it has been around for about a century. The building design was typical of Dutch colonial era. A uniformed waiter greeted us and led us to a table in the verandah.

Fountain Ice Cream Cafe

Fountain ice cream parlor is a very popular ice cream cafe back when I was a high school student in Medan. I remembered celebrating my birthday at Fountain with several friends, eating their famous birthday ice cream. When we visited Medan recently, I took SC to one of their branches at Sun Plaza just for old time's sake. Besides ice cream, they also serve various meals like sandwich or pasta. We ordered their banana split (with chocolate, rum & raisin & coffee ice cream) 13,75K to share. It still tasted great although we found a large piece of ice in one of the ice cream. The price was very cheap compared to Jakarta's ice cream parlor :)

Last month, on our short trip to Bandung, we visited the famous Sumber Hidangan for a quick lunch. Situated at Braga, a road steeped in nostalgia, Sumber Hidangan is one of Bandung's food icons that sells Dutch-style bread and delicacies. The ambiance of this place is so old that most of the staff and waiter looked like they've worked here for ages. Every Bandungers I know, including their parents, have fond memories of this place.

Back in December, along with a number of friends, we visited one of the new hip cafes in town. It is located inside Harvey Nichols at Grand Indonesia. Coming from Ismaya Group, the place is surely making its mark. The interior is interesting, spacious, and comfy as expected. When we got there, the place was packed, but we were fortunate to get a table. It seems that this is a place to see and be seen.

Pan-o

Last month, we had a quick lunch at Pan-O before the chocolate appreciation class. It's a new pancake restaurant at FX lifestyle center and as predicted, stationed the non-smoker outside of the restaurant *hiks*. We ordered their three stack original pancake with maple syrup, one fancy pancake called kyoto (grilled chicken, tomatoes, chicken ham, oyster mushroom and mozarella, served with rolled pancake and mashed potato) 50K and berry ice drinks. Their original pancake tasted quite good, although not as good as the pancake in Pancious. Their fusion / fancy pancake tasted is just mediocre, though the drink was nice. Overall, I think this place is overpriced with standard pancake.

Leaving Cafe De Paris, we walked several blocks to Plaza Bisnis Kemang. At the back of the building, right next to Die Stube restaurant (will try this next time), is a French Crêperies. The room was quite dark, decorated in red classic wallpaper wth several vintage posters on the wall. I felt like I were on Moulin Rouge's movie set. This place is famous for their home made ice cream, sorbet and crepes, but they also serve several kinds of savory dishes.

Last weekend, we attended a chocolate appreciation class (80K on Sundays, 65K on Tuesdays and Thursdays) held at Creole chocolaterie patisserie. As it was impossible for me to join during weekdays, we booked for sunday session instead. The place is small but warm and cozy. Upon arriving, each of us was given a cup of Belgian chocolate brew and a bottle of mineral water. The class was taught by Jose 'Joy' Pelo (a Filipino who taught at culinary school in Australia). He began the class with a story about the origin of chocolate. We got to sniff and taste an array of chocolate prepared in a small plates. We tasted compound chocolate, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, milk chocolate, and chocolate containing 43%, 64%, 71%, and even 94% cocoa mass. I can only tolerate the 64% dark chocolate as the 71% & 94% tasted too bitter for me.

Cheese Cake Factory

After bubur ayam sukabumi, we went to the restaurant next door for dessert. The restaurant's interior is nice. There are display cases showcasing their cheese cakes and an open kitchen. Besides dessert, this place also offers full meal course (steak, pasta, pizza, etc), but we already decided we'll only try their desserts. So we ordered a piece of blueberry cheese cake and a portion of warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The cheese cake tasted delicious and wasn't too sweet. The warm chocolate cake was also decent, but I was dissapointed when they said they don't have mint leaves, which would've complimented the vanilla ice cream nicely. Overall, I think this place is good, but I still prefer Cizz's cheese cake, too bad they've already moved out of Tebet.

3 weeks ago, when we're in FX Center, we noticed that Cali Deli has just opened a new branch on the 7th floor. It is a restaurant specializing in Vietnamese sandwiches and I've been wanting to try it. However, we hesitated before entering this place because when we asked for non smoking area, the waiter told us proudly that every space in there is available for smoking. But since the place was not crowded and I didn't spot anyone smoking, we decided to take a quick bite. There were various sandwiches to choose from: java bread (sweet) 24.5K, veggie 21K, grilled chicken 32K, chicken satay 32K, lemongrass chicken sandwich 33K, BBQ chicken 33K, tuna egg 33K, beef satay 43K, turkey 43K and combo signature 43K. We decided to go with the Lemongrass chicken sandwiches. Too bad they didn't have lemongrass tea, so we decided only to order mineral water. Our meal came several minutes later. To be honest, it didn't look appealing at all. But it turned out to be delicious. I like the crispy French bagguete and the stuffing was also good. I like the taste of chicken combined with lemongrass and cilantro, It taste so refreshing. If only they put a strict rule about smoking & non smoking (or better yet, no smoking at all), I think I'll visit this place more often.

Last month, we visited a place called Glass House located at Pluit area. The place has a quite nice design & concept. The menu is a combination of Asian & Western dishes. Since we've already had lunch somewhere else, we didn't order much. We only ordered a portion of fish & chips and warm chocolate cake. The fish & chips was quite good, served with what they said is tar tar sauce. The fish was fresh & fried in the right crispiness. As for the chocolate cake, the portion was small, but the cake itself was not bad at all. It was warm, using dark chocolate I presume, with a right texture. A funny thing happened when we paid the bill. I usually keep restaurant's bill for review. But the waiter didn't give me back my receipt, and when I asked for it, it came back with a very crumpled paper. :))

After lunch, SC and I went to Taman Anggrek Mall to meet some friends for dinner. Since we still have sometime to spare, we decided to try this Danish ice cream cafe. They offer a wide variety of choices of ice cream (banana fudge, belgian chocolate chip, cookies & cream, danish nougat, fruits of forest, macadamia nut, mango, mint chip, mocha almond fudge, orange chocolate chip, rum & raisin, strawberries & cream, vanilla & yogurt). We ordered one of Andersen's creation: Single Fondue (comes with fresh seasonal fruits, chocolate chips cookies, nuts, waffle cone, chocolate sauce and 2 scoops of rich and creamy ice cream, we choose Belgian chocolate chips & rum raisin) 40K. The ice cream tasted delicious, although not as creamy as Cream & Fudge or Cold Stone. I found myself scraping the serving plate for the last bit of ice cream :)

Chic's Cookies
Posted by jeny at 5:39 AM
Two months ago, Chica gave me a pack of her latest creation: cookies. These cookies are the chewy American type. When I arrived home, I quickly unpacked them and took a large bite. It tasted heavenly. :) I like it a lot, especially the peanut butter cookies. She actually includes the recipe in her multiply site, but since I couldn't bake at all, I prefer to order it from her. So I order three varieties: original, double chocolate & peanut butter. She asked me if I prefer smaller or bigger cookies. I said that I want the smaller ones so I can have more cookies :P Chica's cookies can also be found at Coquelicot dessert corner or made by order.

3 weeks ago, we tried this small & stylish cafe inside Glow Store at Plaza Indonesia. It was a branch of the old Kemang stalwart. Although the place is not big, the interior is decorated in classic contemporary style. They have several cakes displayed in the counter, but there's not much to select from the menu. We ordered Du Hammam Tea (green tea, rose, green date and red fruit) 25K++ and from their dessert list we ordered chocolate profiterole (filled with stracciatella ice cream and caramel sauce) 45K++. I like the profiterole very much, with the ice cream containing coarsely ground peanuts. The tea was also good. Pricey, but worth my every rupiahs :D

On our way home, we stopped by Bendungan Hillir area to buy some Lumpia Semarang from Bamboo ID. I've tasted this lumpia before, but didn't have time to take a picture, since it vanished quickly right after I put it in front of my colleagues. So this time, I decided to take a picture first before eating it. Since both of us feel very full, we only bought 5 pcs (30K) home. At first I thought I can only eat 1 or 2 pcs, but I ended up eating 3 pcs (SC got 2). It was simply delicious. There were no hint of the smell normally associated with bamboo shoots that usually makes me hesitant to eat Lumpia Semarang. We definitely will be back. Hopefully, they will open a cafe soon, so we can eat the lumpia on the spot instead of taking it home first. :)

After our not so lucky experience at Dijan's, we decided to return to Gourmet Garage again. This time we're lucky as there were several empty spots in the small parking lot. Gourmet Garage is a combination of 3 restaurants: Jbay, Hiro, Sabaa & 1 supermarket in one roof. No wonder this place is always full. We chose to sit on the first floor at Jbay. After scanning the cake & ice cream selection, we ordered Hot Chocolate Melt Pudding 39K. The service was very nice compared to Dijan's, even though we only ordered 1 item (with no drink). About 15 minutes later our order came, a small chocolate cake accompanied by a waffle basket of vanilla ice cream + chocolate sauce. The taste was simply superb. The chocolate inside tasted like dark chocolate and it goes perfectly with the vanila ice cream & mint leaves.

Gourmet Garage

We went back several weeks later and this time, we ordered three scoops of ice cream (12K each): chocolate chip, tiramisu & banana pistachio, and also ordered their apple tart. All of it are delicious. The chocolate ice cream was bitter as dark chocolate should be and the apple tart had a nice cinnamon aroma. We will be back again for their other menus when we have time :P

Dijan
Posted by jeny at 6:17 PM
After lunch, we decided to have dessert at some other place. I've heard/read somewhere that Gourmet Garage's ice cream & chocolate cake is delicious. Since we're near Kemang area, we immediately headed there. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the parking lot was so full. So we went to Dijan instead for pannekoek & planned to return later if we're still hungry. Contrary to the situation at Gourmet Garage, Dijan was empty. We're the only customer there. I like the interior of this place, it was an old colonial house turned into a restaurant. We only ordered a potion of Pannekoek (small) 25K with mineral water, and then I saw that they also had a hot chocolate cake, so I ordered it. The waiter asked us twice as if he can't believe that we only wanted to order desserts.

Dijan's Pannekoek

Our pannekoek came first. It was only so so, not bad, but not good either. After finishing the pannekoek, we waited and waited and waited for our next dessert, but after more than half an hour, nothing came out from the kitchen. Then I asked them & they said that we didn't make it clear that we wanted chocolate cake too, so they didn't prepare it. I was quite annoyed, so we quickly paid and left. Definitely not going to return. :(

After late lunch at Sari Melayu we still have some time to kill before picking SC's sister from the airport, so we headed to Casa - Kemang determined to try only the dessert. Located on the second floor of Aksara Book Store. I like the decor of this place, it was so sixties. The place was still empty so we can have our meal without having people smoking next to our table.

Ragusa

Last week, after lunch at Dapur Umum, we headed to Ragusa for dessert. I have read/heard about this famous place for so long, but this is the first time I went to this place. The place was crowded when we arrived there around 2PM, but luckily we still can get a table. we look around and see that besides ice cream, we also can order some food like sate ayam, otak-otak, bakmi ayam from the street vendor outside Ragusa (too bad we just had lunch). So we only ordered the famous spaghetti ice cream 26K, Banana Split 26K, Nougat Ice cream 13K, and Orange Float 16K. Overall the ice cream taste was delicious. the spaghetti ice cream was shapped like spaghetii and placed in a spagheti bowl, topped with bits of dried fruit and nuts. It tasted light and not as creamy as I though it should be.

Patisserie Francois

After a not so successful dinner, we wandered around in the mall and I was attracted to a small space (it only has 2 small tables) with clean decoration that sells home made desserts. They offer 40% discount after 8PM (if I'm not mistaken), so we sat down and tried Hawaiian Parfait which surprisingly tasted very good. The place also offers coffee to go with the dessert. We definitely will be back. :)

Last weekend we tried a new pancake restaurant located at Puri Indah, The place was actually a residential house transformed into a commercial space. When we arrived there's a birthday party held on the first floor, so we proceed to the second floor and choose to sit at the terrace, got the menu and picked the original sweet pannekoek - small (served with dusting sugar, whipcream and Dutch stroop) 12K , savoury pannekoek : the great bratwurst (pannekoek with grill beef bratwurst served with apple kraut and red pepper sauce) 25K, and Ice Lemongrass Tea 15K. Overall the meal taste was not bad, but not spectacular. The pannekoek looks more like crepe, I'm not sure what is Dutch Pannekoek looks like, but with that price I think I like the one at Pancious better (for the generous portion and decent taste) :)

Mama Home-made Ice Cream
Posted by jeny at 8:08 AM
Last month, I read about this small bakery that serves Chocolate Melt. Being a chocolate melt lover, of course I want to try it. The place is located in Mediterania Garden apartment - Tanjung Duren. The place itself is small, and was already full with guests when we arrived (most of them are smoking as there's no rule against smoking), so we decided to sit in the lobby area, and ordered Chocolate Melt 14K. To accompany the cake, we can order a scoop of their home made ice cream (vanilla 8K, other flavors 13.5K). I usually choose vanilla, but the waiter suggested rum & raisin, so we ordered that. When it came, I asked for a mint leaf on top of the ice cream (I always love mint with ice cream), but since they didn't have mint leaves, they gave me a cherry instead. Overall the cake was delicious, although a bit on the sweet side. The rum and raisin ice cream turned out great. We also ordered a piece of devil's chocolate cake 8K, but the taste is somewhat similar to Brownies Kukus Amanda.

Awfully Chocolate
Posted by jeny at 4:13 PM
Last month, when we passed Pondok Indah, we saw there is
a sign called "awfully chocolate". We were wondering whether Awfully
Chocolate opening their second branch there. The exterior & interior of
this place was so minimal, you will never guess that its a cake shop, there
is no cake displayed. I liked the place design but I think it was too cold for
a cake shop. :)

They offered 3 types of chocolate cake : all chocolate (original chocolate
cake with dark chocolate fudge) 150Kchocolate banana (two layers of banana in
between signature dark chocolate cake) 165K and chocolate rum and cherry (dark chocolate cake with sweet pitted cherries and dash of rum). We picked chocolate rum and cherry. For 185K we got 0.5kg of cake, if we want more than 0.5kg we have to ordered it by phone. I think it was quite pricey. But the cake was simply delicious, without any fancy decorating, the chocolate sponge cake was cold, soft, not too sweet.

One of our destination for breakfast at Bandung was Purnama. Located at jalan Alkateri amid the jumble of cloth and curtain shops. It's an old style coffee house, usually visited by the elder people of this town. Served bread (old style bread) with various spread, from sweet bread (srikaya, keju, mentega keju, strawberry, pindakaas, mentega gula) to savory bread (roti telur sosis, roti gulung telur, roti sekba, dadar sekba, worst, dadar worst, ham... etc). You can also ordered bubur ayam, putu or cakue from various street vendor outside the restaurant.

Kedai Teko
Posted by jeny at 11:46 AM
From BumiSangkuriang, we moved to Kedai Teko for a cup of tea. I always like this place, it was so homy, surrounded by trees, i could spend hours here doing nothing :) Since we were still full from what we had at lunch time, we only ordered a pot of chi to share. chi actually is what we knew as Masala Chai (Indian spices tea). The pot came with 2 small cup and a bamboo strainer, when I open the pot I saw various of spices like : cardamon, cloves, cinammon, ginger & star anise at the bottom of the pot, the tea already mixed with milk. After a while we pour the tea and putting the strainer on top of the cup to prevent the inggredients fall to the cup. and the tea taste so delicious, I can tell that this is the most delisious chi I ever tasted :) We still want to go back there some other time to try their Poffertjes, tiramisu & home made ravioli.

Parish

Last weekend we stopped by this 'fancy' cake shop. At first we planned to taste their cake on spot, but turn out the place was quite small and the only place to sit was showered by hot sunlight. so we decided to packed several cake choices and bring it to Q. We choose 4 types of cake in 8x8 cm (18.5K) : "diablo chocolate square" (Parish's devilicious signature dark chocolate cake), fudge chocolate square" (chunky milk chocolate all the way), "tiramisu" and "greentea cake". all this cake came with free topping bar (we picked MnM & marsmallow ) & wrapped in a black box with maroon ribbon (quite nice packaging i said). In my opinion, the cakes taste so so, the only acceptable cake was only the 'diablo' which taste OK lah, the other was either too sweet (fudge & tiramisu) or taste weird (green tea). I don't know.. I don't really like this place, I think they only sell a so so cake with nice packaging :( btw there's quite delicious sate ayam in front of this place.

We passed trough this place last weekend and I insisted we turn back and tried this place. It was very crowded on Sunday afternoon, the only seat left was in the smoking section, luckily there's a customer want to swap place with us so we can sit in the non smoking section. I like the interior of this place, designed in modern minimalism style. Red & dark grey wall with simple hanging lamp combined with white table and chair. Jazz music was playing in the background while people chat & dig on their meal happily. it really create a very cozy atmosphere. The menu it self was quite interesting, various of sweet and savory pancake, waffle. They even got pasta selection and steak. So we ordered : original pancakes (3 pancakes with maple syrup) and sausage and salami (two original pancakes or waffles, smoked beef, salami, sausages, cheese) 32K. for drinks we ordered : ice tea (refill) and "mango, almond & strawberry juice". SC's original pancake came first while I have to wait about half an hour for my savory pancake. Overall the pancake was good, cooked into perfection. but it's a bit too much for us, we both feel very full afterwards :)

CiZZ

I know about this place from Cereth, she told me that she just have a very orgasmic 'cheese cake'. So I went there on one weekend when I have a task to buy birthday cake for my friends. When we entered the building, my eyes quickly caught by a very tempting display of various type of cheesecake that was calling me to try them, so after we the cake (chocolate cheese cake 10*20 75K), we ordered double cizz tart "yang sangat gondrong" and blueberry cheese cake and just sat there forgetting that we have a dinner reservation two hours later. Surprisingly the cake wasn't as sweet as I thought such a "gondrong" cheese cake should be :P it is so delicious, it was consist of 3 layer of soft cheese cake + creamcheese & covered with lots and lots of cheese (maybe thats why they called it double cheese), my friend's blueberry cheese cake also not bad at all that she decided to went back to cizz the next day and bought the whole cake 20*20 (135K) :) after that I ordered 'truffle torte' to take home (it was melted already when I arrived home that night but still tasted so delicious).

Chic's Loaf
Posted by jeny at 7:00 PM
chics breadOne day I received 4 loaves of home-made bread from Chic's Loaf. It is not just an ordinary 'roti tawar' that usually found at the bakery, the aroma of the bread suddenly makes me so hungry and decided to have that bread for lunch. I'm not a bread lover but this one is an exception, its a "Herbed Cheese" - garlic & cheese bread with lots of herbs like oregano/basil inside the bread 20K each. The other variety is "Herbed Smoked Beef" garlic & cheese with smoked beef 25K each and "Cinnamon Raisin". both of the bread taste so delicious. and the top of the bread was smeared with olive oil. I guess that is one of the reason why the bread color was golden brown & smell so good. :)

I happened to be there at that time, and we decided to take a look, the place was so crowded, there's a long queue to get the donuts. meanwhile at the same time another donuts place seems deserted, even the popular rotiboy didn't have any queue. I just can't wait to see when Krispy Kreme open at "Senayan City", will it be as crowded as this one?

We noticed that there is a very crowded place in Pesanggrahan called "Sandwich Bakar Kedai Kopi", located next to the "Nasi Uduk Kebon Kacang". Actually I thought this place was the reason why Pesangrahan street always so crowded at night. :)

They served various type of : Roti Bakar Manis, Sandwich Bakar, Appetizer, Steak (without salad), Dessert and Drinks with a very very reasonable price. Since we already had "nasi uduk kebon kacang", we only ordered : Sandwich bakar tuna crispy salad : small (9K), Sandwich bakar smoked fish marlin salad : small (9K) & Ronde kacang campur (Mixed Bali Peanuts) with ginger soup 10K. we can extra meat, egg and cheese to the sandwich with additional change. The wedang ronde contained mixed ronde with peanut, bunga teratai, red bean, green tea, durian & chocolate inside, very creative i said :)

I dragged SC to Bakerzin EX last week to taste their famous "Chocolate Souffle with thyme ice cream", it's my favorite dessert here, although they said they have the best tiramisu here, I still prefer to have the souffle. its a warm chocolate cake with hot chocolate sauce In the middle of it. We have to wait about half an hour for them to prepare and bake it, but its worth waiting. Souffle should be eaten quickly, while hot and before it falls. Bon Appetite :)

Rotiboy
Posted by jeny at 12:22 PM
Last Night @ MTA, before go home, i was thinking to buy a piece of rotiboy home, Rotiboy was a bread store that only sell 1 type of Bun which is Rotiboy (kind of mexican bun). Its a new popular bread store in Jakarta. Actually from its original store at Malaysia, they also sell different tipe of bread such as : Red Bean, Hotdog Ayam, Chilly Sardin, Butter Raisin Twist, Tuna Cheese, Hotdog Sayur, Garlic Bread, Chicken Loaf, Coffee Custard, Hotdog Cheese and Coconut Bread.

That night when I arrived at the store around 9:00PM, they said I have to wait for about half an hour to get the bun, and I saw there's alot of people waiting too, so I decided to make may order and watching they prepared the bun. Finnally I got my order, and I am not regretted waited this long just for this, the bun was simply delicious, crispy out side and soft inside with butter that melt in my mouth mmmmm :)

Gelatobar - Desert with Style?
Posted by jeny at 3:45 PM

Last weekend I went to Plaza Indonesia EX with SC, after browsing some bookshop like Aksara & Periplus, I felt thirsty so we stopped by Gelato Bar at EX and have some waffle with chocolate & lemon ice cream, not bad but since the place was quite small & crowded, I just don't feel I had desert with style :p

Klapertart
Posted by jeny at 2:55 PM
Last weekend, I ate klapertart at Beautika. Beautika is a Manado restaurant serving only Manado traditional food such as Rica-rica, Ayam Woku, Tude, Cakalang. I like this restaurant alot because of its ambience & spicy food. Klapertart is a Dutch style Manado desert also known as coconut cake... very yummy... :)
